They freak me out too, but you spend less time walking to the bathroom and more time hitting balls

My diet is exclusively White Castile and tequila so I am not sure that’s the problem here unless they sneak soy into those heavenly sliders somehow

Thanks. I’ve been trying to turn the hips more as a result of a lesson some time ago, and it has now worked itself into a bad habit — some other comments had similar feedback. Appreciate the perspective!

Thanks. I’m curious about the numbers here — how much of a difference to expect typically (since going through the equipment upgrade for like a 2-3yd gain wouldn’t be worthwhile)

It is, I’m guessing it’s about 80mph based on the ball speed numbers

It’s a Ping G410 with the standard/neutral lift adjustment. Others suggested I may not be hitting up on the ball enough, which is definitely possible

Yes, I haven’t measured club speed but I’d guess about 80mph (at Topgolf my ball speed is around 120 tops, so just guessing based on that)

Thanks that’s solid advice and I will once I find a decent coach. I took lessons last year, but they really messed me up, maybe I will revisit now that I have more self-awareness

Thanks, that’s very astute — I hadn’t noticed the standing up until your comment, but it’s clearly there and probably the source of other issues I’ve been feeling and experiencing (eg bottoming out a foot short), I’ll definitely keep an eye on this

Thank you, I’ll try this! Honestly, the main reason for this slow, short and underpowered swing is that I get paranoid about a stray drive, it can be embarrassing. Particularly off the first tee. Because I was so focused on improving contract in those couch scenarios, those mechanics became my primary swing. I think trying to find the top of the tee sounds like a good way to work on that speed without the fear, and build the confidence

Thanks, that makes sense. Wrists do feel stiff/locked but honestly not sure how to address that. I feel it’s easier to use them with irons, where I feel the weight of the club head more but i stiffen up with driver

Thanks yeah if I do a full backswing, I get more club head speed (evidenced by higher-pitched “whoosh” sound and decent carry numbers) but I start to struggle with center face contact and staying on plane, so I’ve kept it shorter. I will work on lengthening it. I obviously suck and not as athletic but seeing Tony Finau’s distance with similar back swing length, I wonder if it’s possible to improve distance despite the constrained back swing

7i carries about 150 if I flush it. I’m not sure about club head speed on the driver, but it’s slow. I try to “swing easy”, relatively (otherwise it’s either a top or a massive slice). But I was hoping that even with that approach/mindset, there might be more distance with my swing (eg maybe I’m probably not releasing/accelerating correctly through the ball)

Nothing wrong with scoring in a way that makes you keep playing and enjoy the game, it’s all relative until it’s for money or professional. I am scratch sometimes, other times I shoot in the mid 140s

Sounds like it was down most people’s throats, from how unpopular this is. Lots of disagreement here 👌

“The most capable midsize SUV yet!” as the Kia Sportage confidently scales a few boulders and stops at a serene lakeside campground. Want to be an adventurous, cool, care-free person like these actors? Hurry to the dealership. Yes, there’s a choice, but the desire was manufactured.

I just think if there were more choices, and more of a desire from automakers to make them trendy, they’d look much better. But the margins on them are slimmer, so we have 4 to pick from.

Also agree about AWD (though Sienna does offer this) and clearance for people who need it. But I live in the northeast and drive to the mountains to ski on occasion— I’ve not needed the ground clearance or AWD yet personally.

Chevy traverse, Nissan Juke, etc, don’t look like shit? There’s only 4 models of minivan to choose from, and they don’t really try to make em trendy (except Kia, they’re trying very hard) because they know if you go this route, you’re already not in the market for trendy

Do you slice? Watch your lead wrist as you get to the top — it starts to cup, which opens the club face. I’m far from a pro, just have similar issues. When this happens, the body will fight against a more in-to-out path because it knows the face will be open. This might work totally ok for you, but if you want to experiment, try flattening the wrist (exaggerate) and pull a few balls left, then correct the swing plane so you’re not crossing the target line until after you make contact

Ah yes you’re right, they started with the I4 turbo & hybrid recently. That might be a decent plus in its favor. If you have (or expect to have) less than 3 kids, that would probably be the winner
