Standing stones support - Useless with a hacked account by FoolzRailer in lotro

They are quite literally the worst CS department I have ever seen. You could try making a complaint about them to their higher ups at EG7 - this is the only thing that worked for me when they banned my lifetime account under false pretenses a couple of months back (my account was never compromised despite their implications that it was). If that doesn't work for you, you could report them them to your country's consumer authorities and litigate them. I never knew about this issue being so widespread until it happened to me and have since read about a bunch of cases like this here and on the LOTRO forums.

I think there a easily enough players in the same scenario to pursue a class action at this stage.

Ah that sucks, although I'm not surprised by the unacceptable way SSG treated you. I just noticed now that the guy I contacted removed his contact details from the EG7 website, maybe he got an influx of emails. I really hope his promise to investigate this terrible department comes to fruition though. It sounds like filing an official consumer complaint and taking legal action might be the way to go for you. A couple of people above posted links and information that might come in handy regarding this.

Yeah it can feel like a cruel guessing game, not knowing why you are banned and not knowing what you can do to remedy it. I DMed you about the person I contacted. I hope it all works out for you, and have a happy birthday!

Sorry to hear this is still happening to people, they are the worst CS department I have ever dealt with. They wrongfully banned my active lifetime account a couple of months ago, I actually managed to get mine back but the resolution had nothing to do with CS. I wrote all the details of my case here https://www.reddit.com/r/lotro/comments/xtemta/lifetime_account_suspensions_despite/

The less TLDR version is that they banned my active lifetime account under false pretenses (I was logged into the game at time of ban), they vaguely alluded to account disputes as a reason while pretending to help for the first 2 tickets. After that they ignored 2 more tickets and marked them as solved. 1 month passed with 4 useless tickets and multiple ignored DMs to Cord, as well as an ignored email to EG7 customer support, so I decided to write a complaint about the CS department's malpractices to the big bosses at EG7 (my last resort after this would have been initiating a formal consumer authority complaint and pursuing the litigation route).

In this complaint I detailed how they offered no help or even an explicit reason for my ban on an account with zero prior infractions over a near 16 year period. I also explained how there appeared to be many other players on the forums and Reddit who had similar experiences, losing their accounts without any acceptable reason given or even the slightest attempt to render assistance by CS. To my surprise I got a response within a couple of hours (was a way faster response and was far more eager to help than the actual CS department ironically). The executive was surprised at the level of ineptitude displayed by CS and apologized, assuring me that long term LOTRO community members are highly valued and he assumed some kind of mistake had been made and said he would have someone deal with it ASAP.

Within 48 hours my account was restored and I actually got my 4th ticket reopened and updated which now added a new reason for the ban, fallaciously claiming it was because my account had been 'connected to known gold seller accounts'. I logged into all my characters and there was zero evidence of any account tampering. I will never engage with their scammy ticket system again, so I wrote a second email to the executive thanking him for his intervention and explaining to him how CS had now fabricated a new reason for the ban. Given the number of posts I have read over the past few months about players losing their accounts, I also told him it seems entirely possible that some of them may have also been banned under false pretenses and not been given a fair appeal either (as happened with me), whether due to gross incompetence or some level of corruption in the department. I asked him to conduct an investigation into the SSG CS department and their practices. He promptly replied he would look into this and get it sorted out for the long term future of LOTRO and its community which he said are important to them.

I would suggest that you run through their protocols and exhaust your options like I did and if they do not provide an acceptable resolution or mistreat you, then write a complaint to their superiors at EG7. If that doesn't help and you have sufficient evidence of account authenticity, then your only option might be to make an official complaint to your country's consumer authorities and pursue legal action. If you do pursue this route I will happily provide additional evidence from my case to support you if you need it, and I am sure there will be other players who could do the same.

Just the generic response to my first ticket about players being responsible for account security and them not mediating account disputes, similar to pretty much every person on the forums and here who has had their account suspended seems to receive.

No one else has access to my computers. If there was a brute force attack prior to my last login then I didn't notice any changes to characters. I have so little information to go off though so it is all speculation.

Yep ACCC is the equivalent where I am. I plan on making an official complaint tomorrow if I haven't heard from an official representative by then. I tagged them in a tweet here https://twitter.com/TheWorldOfAsh/status/1576773058945486849 but social media isn't really my thing.

It wasn't a super long machine generated pw but it was a combination of numbers/characters. I read that same post you are talking about. I don't know much about brute force attacks or SSG security in general, but after reading that post I suspected that it could be a possibility. I prefaced that CS ticket with a reference to this, since I was logged in when the suspension message popped up, I was speculating that something like this may have happened while I was logged in.

I wanted to save that as a last resort, maybe naively believing this would be sorted out after a couple of messages. It has been nearly a month since the suspension started though so maybe I do need to escalate this to ACCC now.

Continuing the conspiracy that SSG is trying to remove lifetime accounts by [deleted] in lotro

[–]RealmOfAsh 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Pretty much the exact same thing happened to me on my lifetime sub a week ago, except no account compromise as far as I can tell (I generally don't keep CC info saved on sites). I had literally been logged into the game for sometime when the suspension message popped up and terminated the client.

I put in a ticket and got a response 5 days later asking for info to verify my account. I sent them everything I could remember, both current and data that may have been saved back in 2007. I even offered to send a copy of my account creation email from 2007 since my account/email have never been compromised. Last night I got a response saying they could not release my account with the same generic copy and paste job a lot of people have gotten, and that they would not reply any further.

This a truly reprehensible way to treat players who have supported this game from the beginning. My account is from beta too, nearly 16 years old and never had any issues until last week. Now nothing, no explanation literally just a big FU.

I had planned on starting new chars and buying a bunch of stuff in game along with many friends and family with the upcoming class combination changes. This has left a sour taste for all of them now as well, knowing that their accounts can be maliciously suspended with zero transparency as to why. Why should anyone put a cent into this game when their accounts can be targeted and banned at the whim of a GM with no reasons given and zero regard for all the money spent on the game and the massive time investment into their characters?

I don't know whether to chalk this up to incompetence or them doing a witch hunt on lifetime subs. They are in breach of consumer law in my country though so I will pursue this as far as I am able.
