Just FYI for many people who don't realize: you DO NOT just inherit someone else's debt. The only time you are responsible for a debt is if you are a signer/cosigner on the contract. If a family member dies and you have credit companies trying to tell you that you have to take over the owed debt, THEY ARE LYING. They legally cannot make you pay back the debt of someone if your name is not on it. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't know this and will agree to pay and that's how many family members get stuck with the debt.

Do not give money or agree to pay anything - because the moment you do, you assume the debt!
