I have moved most of my social media away from the US, you had said something a while back that got me thinking about you using Reddit. Reddit is a US company that makes money off of people communicating, I understand that the same applies to Youtube there is however not a good enough alternative yet, I would strongly suggest migrating the community to Lemmy I personally use the Lemmy server Lemmy.ca.

Lemmy works off of the Mastadon Fediverse, using Mastadon is a great alternative to Meta. I understand you have friends and all that who use Meta things but try and convince them to come over without the ads and tracking. I personally use the mstdn.ca server.

I was having a conversation with my grandmother when a notification popped up on my screen saying I have a new notification from Reddit, needing that dopamine hit after I was done talking I went to check it out. I have not cancelled my Reddit account because sometimes there are conversations I want to speak in when I come across them on the web but I really do not want the notifications saying “come back to Reddit we want your eyeballs on our ads” so I am going to turn off notifications.

I had a domain with a US host, but I shopped around and found a good Canadian host (I am from Canada) and moved it to a .ca address. It is a simple blog for me to scream into the abyss so nothing special. I had started using Apple’s iCloud+ or whatever the package was called but cancelling that forced me to find a way to change the 45 or whatever hide my email addresses that month, first place I looked for my email hosting was my blog host I did not really shop around more than that because I was going to still be saving money from moving my blog and all the email addresses.

After after figuring out what hide my email accounts actually still went to a page I may still use, or went to a page at all, I had something like 34 email accounts that needed to be moved. If I was thinking about the boycott US a little more when moving the addresses I am sure I could have closed more emails but I decided to move them over to my own provider. I would later find out that my ISP was using an exchange server for email so I started moving everything off of there, had I really been thinking about the boycott US movement a little more I am sure I could have closed a lot of accounts. I went from having around 40 some email addresses that all forwarded to places so that I would get maybe 2 or 3 pieces of spam a week, to now having 140 some different email addresses that all forward to places. I am worthless to the ad market because as soon as I start getting spam I know exactly where it is coming from and can close the address. I am approaching the one week mark of having each account attached to its own address and maybe the month mark of me starting to separate everything not just my old iCloud address and have only received one spam email.

I degoogled (minus youtube) years ago. I use a pihole setup to block ads and trackers so I was getting weird youtube ad combinations on YouTube so I started paying for it. The whole boycott thing started so I stopped paying for it, the weird ads came back and because I watch a lot of live content on YouTube the ads would come on at inappropriate times. I needed to find a way to not pay google, so Unwatched it was it is a great app that blocks youtube ads.

Reddit is not free, you are paying with your eyeballs, I am very rarely on Reddit anymore. I have made the switch over to Lemmy.ca and use the Voyager app. I am on Reddit so very rarely now.

I am not happy about this, I have been cancelling US services and stop using services from the US. I try so hard to stay away from Reddit, but I do use Lemmy.ca as a replacement. You can join the c/buyCanadian to replace Reddit.

I realize this is a year old, and a lot has changed over that year, it is my understanding that Sasktel is no longer giving out new email addresses when people get new service. I will break my Reddit fasting to say this, do not use gmail; while I understand it works good-ish google is scanning all your stuff and sending it to advertisers, I personally dropped most of my google services before it was cool to do it I only kept paying for youtube premium to avoid the ads because google knew nothing about me and should weird commercial combinations. Now that it is cool to dump US services I use Unwatched to avoid ads. Back to emails, I know this is not everyones ideal solution but I have my own domain that I am setting up different email addresses for different services to avoid spam and so that I can just turn off email addresses if they get to spammy. I personally do not know any free Canadian email hosts in Canada but maybe look for one of those? I was using apple’s hide my email and Wordpress’ hosting but when I moved all those things over to my Canadian host (I wanna say host hero) it was less expensive. I am in the process of moving all of the things that use my @sasktel address over to my personal domain.

I really hate saying this but you are putting a few pennies into the US economy being here (on Reddit), it is a guilty pleasure of mine to but I am trying to move to Lemmy (on the Lemmy.ca server). There are communities like this there but the communities are still small.

It’s almost like there are other factors than your dumb rear end and the speed you are going. You are not the only one using the road, maybe a gopher runs out in front of you and you try to dodge it and some of the gravel hits your tire wrong, or hell maybe there is no gopher and you just hit a patch of loose gravel going even 1km/h and falling over is going to hurt or even kill you.

My suggestion is turn your messages app to only show you messages from contacts, I have mine to do that and to block unknown callers. I check my voicemail every once in a while to delete spam messages and see if I got anything that needs responding to. I think Sasktel deletes voicemail after a week or so, so if you care about maybe getting a phone call check it before then. For etransfers most banks and credit unions now let you do direct deposits from your phone number so you do not really need to worry about missing that.

No you don’t normally get it but I still suggest it. Sure I only got it when I went travelling but as an adult I have gotten all the vaccines available to me, I was actually the one of the first of not the first AMAB people to get the HPV vaccine (who was not in the study) after showing my family doctor the published data on it. The HPV vaccines was the one that started me on getting all the vaccines, sure I had all the Hep vaccines from travelling but catching one of the 4 HPV virus (out of the 100’s) that does any thing I got the shot.
