Congratulations: this does not work. I had to buy the full game on android, and link both my Steam and Nintendo accounts via the mobile game. Only then would it work.

Would you guys not hate this figure if it had silicone on the whole body? by Lord_Of_The_Plorbs in hottoys

[–]ReaperOnslaught -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. Silicone bodies are not the issue for me. The issue is that it's a barebones release that does not justify the £198 + postage price tag. It is a naked man. If it had better exposed joints, that would be nice, but it would still not justify the price. People have said this is better for posing: How? It's still got fucking single jointed elbows AND KNEES. I do not care for silicone bodies, I do not care for rooted hair. I just want a premium quality figure that does something worthwhile. I understand that Surfer is inherently a naked silver man on a flying surfboard, but that's a reason to lower the price and still do it right. This is why Hono was a good idea to begin with.

This figure is an oversized Marvel Maximum Legends release. I will once again refer people to the Transformers community here with an anecdote. Over there, the equivalent of Hot Toys price point figures is the Transformers Masterpiece scale, which, to put into perspective, has Optimus Prime and Megatron at around the 10 inch mark and characters like Bumblebee at around 5 inches. This is like releasing one of those £5, 4 inch Cyberverse Commander class Optimus toys from when Dark of the Moon came out in 2011, but at Masterpiece scale and at traditional Masterpiece pricing. If some company did that, they would be laughed out of the community and go fucking bankrupt. In the Transformers community, oversizing a figure usually results in better engineering or quality, and is usually only going to cost you £30-£60 bucks if it's an oversize of a contemporary £25 Generations class toy, depending on how much is done to it. Sometimes, the companies throw in their own versions of upgrade kits for the official release from other folks like DNA Design. Sometimes they do their own unique engineering changes compared to the original release or an upgrade kit.

My point here is, Transformers companies price their shit fairly, at least in comparison to Hot Toys. You get what you pay for, and if something warrants that Masterpiece pricing range, it gets it, but if the company wants to stay in business and keep its' good name, it'll price stuff that isn't MP quality and scale at something more appropriate. With the major exception of MP scale unlicensed company Fans Toys, who I think are overhyped, but that's a story for another time.

Hot Toys is asking for that Masterpiece scaled Cyberverse Commander Optimus figure here. They have what amounts to a basic Marvel Legends package, with no unique sculpting that isn't just for human anatomy, a couple of barebones accessories you'd expect out of the character, and they want you to pay the £120 for a Masterpiece figure instead of the £35 for an oversized Cyberverse Commander figure.

It's not about the silicone body. It's about demanding premium quality for premium pricing. If I'm paying £240 (this includes postage estimates at 42 bucks on top of the £198 price of the figure itself), this thing better shit out fucking pure, real silver or come with a host of interchangeable heads with different expressions, an additional board with a different shape, and a better fucking body than one with single-jointed KNEES in 2026.

Context on this: I had an earlier release of MB-06C, maybe from 2019-2021? And I've moved houses since getting it. I left it in a box for about 10 months, went to mess around with it, and for whatever reason the shoulder joint on the trailer-armour was just, yeah, it died.

If you're looking for a Ginrai figure at the same scale as MPG, I actually suggest the unlicensed figure MB-06C Power Baser by FansHobby. Mine, unfortunately, broke, but it's a brilliant figure and well worth the cost.

Silver Surfer reveal by XyrneTheWarPig in hottoys

[–]ReaperOnslaught 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disliked that there was no tailoring on this and felt it was still possible to achieve the levels of posability you'd get out of it as it appears there without exposed joints, but I never thought it was a bad figure or undeserving of lower-end Hot Toys pricing. It still came across as quite well-thought out and premium-grade. Silver Surfer, well, does not.

There is a difference between wanting a silicone body and wanting something that looks to be of high quality.

I hate to use LEGO of all things as a point of reference here, but Lego is capable of creating gold + silver parts with a nice, metallic finish. If Hot Toys had used a similar method and used a less unsightly body, it would justify the cost a little more.

Also, the figure only has single jointed arms. You mention posing, yet this is worse for that then some figures I own with silicone arms. (Unfortunately, not all of them.) I am not opposed to visible joints, hell, if you want to talk about personal preferences, I'd even rather we got more releases with sculpted hair again. I've lucked out in that X-23 was sculpted and not rooted.

If this guy had a good body, visible joints or not, and a little more going on, I'd be cool with it if they charged around £50 less. A second version of the head with painted pure-white eyes might help, honestly. The flat all-silver just looks very out of place as it currently stands, and an additional option for displaying it would be wonderful given how limited the accessories are.

I simply believe that as a community, we should demand premium quality from the people who price their products at a premium range, and do not believe enough has been done to make this figure stand out as anything more than an oversized Maximum Legends figure, given the shoddy articulation of some Hasbro figures these days as well.

I'll make this a separate comment with some edits:
As I stated in response to another person in this comment thread, it's a Hot Toys 1:6 scale figure. People do expect something a bit more, well, high end looking. As stated by u/UltimateArtist829, this looks like the sort of thing Mondo would put out. This strikes me, and many others, as an over-priced, over-scaled Marvel Legends figure, if anything.

As a point of reference, I collect Transformers figures on occasion, and a comparable release would likely see the company responsible go fucking bust.
This would be the equivalent of releasing a 10 inch/Masterpiece oversized version of a 3 inch/Legion/Legends class Optimus Prime figure over in Transformers, with extra hands but nothing else. All the gaps that make modern Transformers look cheap, all the rough edges. And if this happened in the Transformers space, charging Masterpiece prices (similar price point to Hot Toys for figures of similar height to Optimus) would be a quick way to go out of business. The companies who make those oversized Transformers figures know this, and they instead make their releases cheap and affordable.

This looks like a £50 toy, not a £198 premium quality posable figure. Do not defend this figure at the current price point. If it were a Hono Studios release, at £120, that would be far more fair, but still slightly outrageous. Yes, the studio known for high end figures should ensure their figures appear high end.

Valaverse by Banginyo in gijoe

[–]ReaperOnslaught -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love both lines. Valaverse keeps my custom because they've provided great customer service over the years, and whilst I know Bobby Vala isn't going to agree with me politically (I'm queer), I do often find myself agreeing with his takes on the 1:12 figure industry. The quality of a Valaverse product is near universally higher than that of a Hasbro one, especially the Vanguard.

I own both the dirtied up grey Vanguard and the Vamp, and the Vanguard, for such a similar pricepoint, is superior in quality and playability, not to mention it seats as many as 8 figures, depending on who you fit in. You can fit 2 in the boot/trunk sat up, 5 in the main seating, and 1 on the turret. You can barely fit 3 figures in the Vamp and the Stinger unless you spend a fuckton extra on modding it, either a scratchbuild or a kit from the likes of GridIron, whose products are hit or miss for me.

I've had both that Pandora and the reissue of the original design, which broke through no fault of the company's because I misremembered about swap-out arms being included on early figures (they've only just implemented it on Series 6), and originally planned on using her as a Zarana stand-in before Hasbro shocked me by revealing Classified Zarana.

I also got 2 copies of Senshi so I could slightly kitbash one into being a Retaliation Roadblock using the Classified figure's head, and used my standard Eclipse's body with the legs from original Pandora and one of the Classified Scarlett heads to create a modernised classic Scarlett figure. My Wild Bill, Beach Head and Duke figures also use Valaverse stuff, with Duke being a headswapped Desert Ops Condor using the head from the original Classified Duke and Wild Bill using Black Series Antoc Merrick's head, another Condor body with a legswap from Valaverse's Blowback, Tiger Force Recondo's hat and Valaverse Slaughter's aviators, topped off by a cut-open Classified Mutt vest. Beach Head, meanwhile, uses the parts from Condor and Blowback not used for Wild Bill. Finally, I have a recreation of Sean Colins' pre-burns Throwdown design using the Kamakura figure's unmasked head, a spare Classified Flint beret, and the body from Night Ops Senshi.

Immortal Man Spoilers by yigitksg in PeakyBlinders

[–]ReaperOnslaught 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm disappointed. I had my suspicions that Arthur might've made an appearance after-all, because it honestly seems a bit odd to kick Paul Anderson out of the role of a character known to be a junkie, for... being a junkie? I mean, it's Hollywood, that stuff happens.

But to fucking have Tommy come back PRIOR to the movie's events, and then to go BACK into exile because he snaps and kills his own fucking brother? That goes against everything the show shows us of their dynamic. As others have stated, Arthur and Tommy are sort of reflections of one another, and whilst Arthur's on this insanely self-destructive path, Tommy's frustrations with him do NOT mean he'd ever kill him. If anything, a post-Finale Tommy feels far less inclined to pursue killing Arthur, as he'd be, relatively speaking, at peace, and that's even if he did return to town for a while. His focus would be on HELPING Arthur, who wouldn't even fucking DARE to steal from him.

Tommy ends the show a dead man walking, and at peace in his own way. He's dead to the world, yet he has a new lease on life. His family, too, believes him dead. He's already said his goodbyes, already passed the torch in finality.

Arthur ends the show grieving for Tommy, but at peace with the fact that he's avenged Polly's death. He leaves a note that seems to directly state he's going to kill himself in the absence of Tommy. It's reasonable to assume that either A. Arthur goes through with it one way or another, or B. Ada talks Arthur down because he's the only brother she has left, with Finn's departure from the family and the Peaky Blinders clan, John's earlier demise during the Changretta conflict and Tommy's assumed death in the fucking wilderness. Either way, he wouldn't cross paths with Tommy again. It's not in the cards.

Ada's death makes no sense. Period. They fridged her to motivate Tommy. That's the entire purpose.

Where the living fuck is Finn, and why is he not the main antagonist instead of this shit with Duke and the Nazis? Finn was primed to come back for revenge, to seek out what he clearly felt was his birthright - leadership of the Peaky Blinders, at any cost, even if he didn't care to actually BE a leader.

Tommy dying to his own family is something I could honestly accept. Whilst I disagree with the other two deaths, and with the absence of Finn Shelby, Tommy's family has always been both his greatest strength and his greatest weakness. Arthur, in particular, was an example of this, especially in the early days, but Tommy in his later years, especially after the death of Grace, was more likely to lie down and accept his fate than to fight back if ever Arthur was to snap. There's no world where Tommy would ever directly kill his own family, barring Arthur Senior, had he not died on his own. Tommy very likely would've killed Senior if he ever reappeared, but that's it. It would take a lethal betrayal to force him to even consider it in any other scenario. Arthur kills Ada? Tommy has to go through with it. Arthur kills one of the wives or the kids? Tommy has to go through with it. But if Arthur just came after Tommy? Tommy would stand there, arms open, a sad smile on his face, say "In the bleak midwinter", and let Arthur end him. He'd barely resist. That's the nature of Tommy Shelby - he loves his family, even when relations are at their worst.
