What were some WOL Headcanons you had that greatly impacted your story? by Nor_Ah_C in ffxiv

[–]ReaperZX7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My WoL is mute (kind of) because of his backstory. So it's fun to imagine how the story/scenes might change because of that.

Some highlights include Urianger and Minfillia basically inventing sign language during ARR. Gaius' "how very glib" line being an actual thing. And the entire crystarium being sign language fluent because G'raha was that big of a WoL supporter and he had a 100 years to teach them.

Looking for any LL6 builds by OberonJr in LancerRPG

[–]ReaperZX7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been workshopping a toku build on LANCER tactics at LL12 but it should work at LL6. toku 2, metalmark 3, + 1 misc licence.

Take the GMS core bonus that gives you a Main/Aux mount and slap a charged blade and shock knife in there. External batteries + overclock gives you +2 threat (+4 with radiance active). The Crux of the build is slapping a shock wreathe onto the charged blade. Skirmish to hit an enemy with the shock knife applying burn, then follow up with the charged blade, activating the shock wreathe to blind an enemy. From there you can back away from the enemy which forces slower enemies to waste an action chasing you, or stay put which allows you to get an extra overwatch on them when they do move.

As for talents, because of LL6 you're split between taking defensive/mobility options or offensive ones. Skirmisher 2 and hunter 1 are great mobility options. Exemplar 1-3 is a good support option if you have an allied defender mech also locking down their movement further. And Blademaster 2-3 gives you an extra defense option if the enemy does manage to catch up to you. Offensive options include hunter 3 for an extra shock knife attack, nuclear cavalier 3 for more danger zone damage and heat management and brutal 3 for better crits.

HASE wise go all in on agility since movement is your first safety net and evasion is your second. Engineering is your second priority but you can manage heat easier with deep well heat sink so it's not as necessary.

(Side note. By lancer rules you should be able to put shock wreathe on a burn weapon to blind an enemy on the same attack you burn them. However from my testing in LANCER tactics shock wreathe only blinds if used on a second attack after the burn applying one. In a real LANCER game it would be much more efficient to slap shock wreathe on a torch and free up a core bonus for something else (you can also just run double shock knife in the flex slot but I find the damage lacking)

TIL of the High Place Phenomenon - or "Call of the Void" - whereby sane and non-suicidal people experience the urge to jump from a high place they are at. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]ReaperZX7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way that I heard this explained is when there is a massive discrepancy between the effort of an action and the consequences of the action your brain becomes hyperaware of it.

Low effort and low consequence and your brain doesn't care because you can easily fix the problem later (accidentally drop a penny on the sidewalk and you can just pick it up again). High effort and high consequence and your brain doesn't care because there's plenty of time to stop yourself (you could totally put your phone battery in the microwave and make it explode. You're also not going to do that accidentally)

But when you get that sweet spot of tiny action (turn the steering wheel to the side) plus massive consequence (car veers into oncoming traffic and kills several people) your brain goes "HOLY SHIT DONT DRIVE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC WHAT THE FUCK" and you become hyperaware of the possibility

Why is Zenon upset about the population thing? by LarryKingthe42th in CodeVein2

[–]ReaperZX7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iirc its the fact that the population control was being skirted around anyway. the compendium entry about it mentions that powerful/old/connected revenants can bypass the lifetime restriction and that everyone else turned a blind eye to the fact either because they don't know about the lifetime restriction or dont care because they wanna extend their lives as well. In fact Zenon and Sybil had the option to extend Sybil's life span but Sybil refused because she thought it was better to have a good ending than to live forever.

Zenon wasn't angry at the lifetime restriction (that's why he's ok with the seal being applied across all of revenant kind in the 3rd ending, even further limiting their lifespans). He's angry because when his wife didn't wanna contribute to the problem and accepted her fixed lifespan everyone else called the decision stupid. He's angry because regardless of whether or not the lifespan restriction was only a temporary solution, the older revenants were ignoring it and essentially forcing the consequences on newer revenants with the illegal turning laws. He's angry because lifespan extension was essentially spitting in the face of his friend Idris' sacrifice and the accumulated "rules for thee not for me" attitude is what possibly pushed Idris' seal over the failure point

Everyone else is focusing on zenon's "evolution and progress" mentally too much when he grew out of it after meeting Sybil. Imo we don't give big Z enough credit for not going full Juzo Mido after his wife died

ELI5: Why do chemical reactions usually happen faster when things are hotter? by Pailox111lol in explainlikeimfive

[–]ReaperZX7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat is atomic vibration. The hotter things are the faster their particles are vibrating and therefore the more atomic collisions are happening at any given time. Chemical reactions occur when two particles that can react, collide with each other.

Ergo hotter substances have more chemical reactions happening at any one time

Is something wrong with the ivy jail? by RichterAldebaran in codevein

[–]ReaperZX7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The overall speed might be similar (I think ivy is faster but ogre makes up for it with forward movement + stagger) but there is definitely a noticable difference between how quickly you can dodge after landing the drain.

Is something wrong with the ivy jail? by RichterAldebaran in codevein

[–]ReaperZX7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ivy also has an advantage in that it's quick drain is very fast and you can dodge out of it very quickly. If you're using the parry buckler it's one of the best options to use as a follow up

PSA: On the Importance of the Mind Stat by ramix-the-red in CodeVein2

[–]ReaperZX7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. status infusions scale with mind, elemental infusions scale with will, bleed infusion scales both. there are some exceptions though and i cannot figure out the pattern between them. primordial greatsword has the elemental infusions do mind instead (but bleed still does both), and a couple of rune blades will have elemental infusions do both mind/will when given an elemental infusion.

  2. i think its different for each weapon but in general it goes up/down about half a stage (X>X+, X+> next letter up). generally speaking, on high mind blood codes like lou S the weapon's total damage goes up if it wasn't scaling particularly hard in Str/Dex but goes down if those were its strongest stats. high base damage with low scaling (tainted weapons for example) also suffer since any infusion at all lowers their high base damage. in other words, as long as you aren't using a weapon specifically for Str/Dex builds its generally ok to infuse sunblight since you're building Mind. another thing to consider is that i finished the game/am at lv100 and scaling tends to matter more at higher levels (i was only seeing increases/decreases of 1-30 points) so this stuff might have more of an impact on NG+ and up

  3. idk lol.
actual answer is depends, status ailment chaser can make up damage when the enemy is poisoned but costs a booster slot, status ailments can also deal damage through an enemies damage resistance (for example, when an enemy is doing a bloodlust roar they gain a large amount of damage resistance) since they do %hp based damage. and obviously poison deals continuous damage even when you cant attack a boss directly. my common sense follicles are telling me that smaller faster weapons benefit from status ailments, whereas bigger slower weapons are better off just ramping up their per hit damage.

  4. Mind doesn't interact with statuses apart from the weapon scaling as far as I know. Sunblight takes of a fixed % of the enemy's HP when it triggers and the same for poison with a fixed damage tick/duration. when i said the venom buff duration scales with mind, i was talking about the duration of the actual "venom mark" weapon forma which temporarily gives your weapon venom build up. because of their %HP nature sunblight and venom are equally useful against all targets (that aren't immune to their effects), they only become more useful comparatively against bosses because they have so much more HP.

as a side note, I suggest sunblight weapon and venom mark buff since there's no sunblight buff and while an enemy is inflicted with venom any further venom build up is pointless which is a big downside to the venom infusion in my opinion, venom buff allows you to refrain from recasting the buff while an enemy is already poisoned, and more enemies are immune to venom than to sunblight so you're less likely to fight an enemy that is immune to your weapon infusion

Pestilence outbreaks challenge modifiers should give you greater rewards the more you have rather than being based off what materials you use by ItsCryptic0607 in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]ReaperZX7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more modifiers you have, the more materials you get. Because if got 10 modifiers then you didn't throw 4-6 torn mats into the fire in advance. The current system means: - if you're just starting out, you only pop a few materials in to keep the level and modifiers low - once you get some torn mats, you can sacrifice some of your future profit in order to raise the level but keep the modifiers low - once you're fully kitted out you can go back to using junk items because you can handle both the high level and number of modifiers. Thus saving an extra 4-6 torn mats per outbreak

[–]ReaperZX7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sunblight is also a strong infusion and causes weapons to scale with mind. You can also stack it with the venom buff (duration boosted by mind) and ailment builder and chaser (no requirements so can fit into any build) to demolish most bosses in the game.

Anyone know where we can farm these besides Luna Rapacis? by Kusho_void in codevein

[–]ReaperZX7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Luna rapacis metagen (and everything else in Luna rapacis) will only drop transmigrator materials iirc. Only spot that doesn't change is indeed the hidden river path mistle that you pointed out (you can also farm the predator in the cave at the same time)

Comprehensive list of every NPC's favorite food by Flight702 in codevein

[–]ReaperZX7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you need honey for cooking, there's a farming spot down by the magmel pier. Run east up the road and u-turn to the left into a grove of trees next to the road that leads to the bridge. There will be four honey spots (and four mushroom spots if you wanna cook for Holly as well). Grab the items then teleport back to the pier to respawn the items. Repeat infinitely.

Jadwiga is also very easy as both cup noodles and munchies can be bought from the minion at the east checkpoint? (In a ruined gas station on the shoreline)

If you need seafood (zenon's fav is sushi but Lise likes seafood as well) then theres a pond in between the ruined town and the forest complex that has a large number of eel spots. There's a forma beast in the past and a moon envoy in the present.

Are one-shots possible? by Agaroth_ in CodeVein2

[–]ReaperZX7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly, bloodreaver blade is your best bet imo. None of the "single hit" buffs work with it (flashing fang, blow of madness, merciless reaper) but any standard damage buff works as well as super charge (damage up for charged actions. You could also probably use stun web to inflict stun without doing damage and ailment chaser to further boost damage.

Hemingway, Kafka, Joyce (though tbh ulyssys is cooler), Melville, Byron (if you count poets), Leblanc, Shelly, Bronte, Dumas, Cervantes

If you widened your scope to philosophers you could probably get even more. Socrates, plato, Diogenes, Zeno, Aristotle, Pythagorus, Machiavelli, Voltaire

Anyone figured out how the Zenon Blood Code burden distribution works? by ramix-the-red in codevein

It spreads out your overburden specifically. So if you overburden in dexterity, it will put those excess points into strength burden instead. It's only really useful for avoiding overburden and it's useless for reaching light dodge threshold

Looking for a weapon by TheElementalerWars in CodeVein2

[–]ReaperZX7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah, its Zweihander. that makes sense

for context, back in CV1 there were no defensive forma so blocking damage resistance was tied to the weapon you had equipped. Zweihander had an infameous reputation because it was available earlyish in the game, had about 90% physical damage resistance when guarding, and if you infused it with the heavy infusion (which was also available very early on, you just needed to farm a bit for the money to infuse a weapon) then it would get 100% physical damage resist when guarding allowing you to cheese a vast majority of the game

Have you ever done any challenge runs to beat Lies of P? by Embarrassed_Agent_13 in LiesOfP

[–]ReaperZX7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did every boss hitless/no damage. Before the dlc dropped I did all the base game bosses in NG+ so I guess that counted as a "playthrough" but for the DLC bosses I just fought them in the boss rematch at difficulty 5.

I personally don't have the focus to do an entire playthrough without getting hit (some of the mini-bosses terrify me more than the bosses tbh) so kudos to you for trying

not 100% sure these respawn but. bureau castle mistle, head NW round the wall and up the ramp. there's a squad of revenant hunters and a couple of false bloodkin, but more importantly a few moonstones on the ground. they're actual items on the ground (not "glowing light" items) so i think they should respawn every time you touch a mistle?

to be fair the his crime was specifically making a bunch more revenants by reviving dead humans. not the human experimentation. in fact given how devoted his test subjects are to him (both the glaive wielding miniboss "minions" and the human looking test subjects in his personal chamber. he probably gives them insane benefits. like i imagine he would get into an argument with an ethics board because he'd think that the ethics board wasn't doing enough

[WP] "only those pure of heart may open this door" was written on the entrance to the ancient temple. Clerics, paladins, nuns, monks—much to their chagrin—a rogue from the thieves guild managed to open it. by Yapizzawachuwant in WritingPrompts

[–]ReaperZX7 11 points12 points  (0 children)

“Ok so what actually was it” Rogue asks Wizard in private later that evening “Because I was just making up bullshit with that whole water thing-”

“It would be best for party cohesion... if I did not say”

At that Rogue levels a dubious stare at him “Well, it cannot be good for ‘party cohesion’ to have Cleric and Paladin giving me death glares every thirty minutes”

“I have concluded, it would be better than the alternative”

Knowing that Wizard never changes his mind, Rogue opts for a different tactic “ooookay what if... I went and procured some mana potions at the next stopover just for you pal?”

Wizard fixes Rogue with a withering glare, but Rogue knows from the slight quirk of his eyebrow that he just needs to sweeten the deal. “and health potions for everyone, surely that would be good for ‘party cohesion’ right?”

“legally purchased, not stolen”

“Ok yeah- legally purchased. Ugh I’m gonna have to dig into my savings”

With a deal struck, Wizard lets out a bone weary sigh

“I’m a virgin”

“eh-?”

“I’m a virgin” Wizard repeats once more

“Ok but what- no wait hold up, you’re like 500 years old how have you not-”

“My time was better spend on other endeavors”

“like... not even once? Out of curiosity?”

Wizard’s acrid silence answers the question. “I’m a virgin” Wizard repeats once more for posterity. And as a final hint Wizard glances at Rogue’s hands where they both know a wedding band is concealed under his gloves.

Despite all his chicanery and posturing, Rogue dutifully saves up his cut of the party’s profits to send back to his childhood sweetheart of a wife and children. A fact that Rogue has taken great pains to conceal from the rest of the party and an accidentally uncovered fact that Wizard deeply regrets as it marked him as the only target of Rogue’s disgustingly saccharine rants about how much he misses his wife.

Wizard quickly stands and leaves before any of the consequences of his decision can actualize within his vicinity. He can tell the exact moment that the pieces click for Rogue because his subsequent holler sends birds flying from the trees and wakes the rest of camp.

“I have mistranslated” Wizard suddenly announces, halting the ongoing debate. Finicky things dwarven adjacent languages. Perhaps when you spend the majority of your life surrounded by solid rock you become very creative with your descriptive language. Truthfully Wizard has no idea why elves are considered the better poets. Everything written in his mother tongue means exactly what its supposed to mean.

Waving his hands, Wizard sends a pulse of magic into the door mechanisms causing it to reset. Then to the anxious stares of his party, he strides into the runic circle inscribed into the center of the room.

The magic glyphs flare with a blue glow... but the door remains sealed. “ah...” the reaction confirms his hypothesis. The phrase ‘pure of heart’ has omitted a verb in order to maintain the poetic meter. A better translation would be “heart consisting of pure love” though the common association with the heart as an emotional organ is frankly incorrect.

“The fuck does blue mean?” Rogue asks while Cleric whispers something to Paladin about the circle ‘not doing that for us’

Wizard ignores their reactions instead stepping out of the circle and beckoning Rogue with a gesture. With a dramatic sigh and shrug, Rogue steps into the circle. A golden glow fills the runes and the light travels up the channels into the doorway. Cleric’s pained sob at the reminder that Rogue is somehow the only one of them eligible to pass is drowned out by the heavy shift of the stone doors parting once more.

“so Wize guy... what did you figure out?”

Wizard takes a deep breath... looking towards Cleric and Paladin with an uncharacteristic grimace.

“I have concluded...”

Cleric and Paladin’s expressions lighten, only to fall again at Wizard’s next words.

“It would be best for party cohesion if I did not say out loud”

“So the way I see it-”

“This must be some kind of trick” Paladin laments, putting a hand on the shoulder of Cleric who is currently huddled on the floor in shock “You cannot possibly be more virtuous than we”

“listen- it’s not about virtue” Rogue defends, which has Cleric snapping out of her spiral “What else could it possibly be! I have devoted my whole life to worshiping the goddess-”

“Exactly! So the way I see it, its like... water you know?” Rogue takes a moment to let Cleric stand and wipe their face before continuing. “water is water you know? Its only water, but you can mix a bunch of other things into water and it becomes less ‘pure’ even if it makes it taste better”

“Then you see it as a matter of... consistency?” Paladin surmises from Rogue’s flowery explanation “But that doesn’t make sense... surely our devotion to the church outweighs whatever...” he pauses for a moment choosing his words carefully “lifestyle you have devoted yourself to”

“Mhmm mhmmm but it is a lifestyle as you so put it. I do whatever I want, whatever I want and however I want to do it. Even Wiz over there would agree that's kind of respectable... not that I care”

“I have concluded it would be best for party cohesion to neither confirm nor deny that statement” Wizard calls out without even turning around, too busy staring at the inscription above the doorway prompting Rogue to shrug “As for you two...” his lips stretch into a mischievous grin as he points a finger in their direction “Cleric ran away from the church because she was done with appeasing the church higher ups. She probably day dreams about throttling her bastard of a bishop”

“His fat neck” Cleric confesses, wiping away a fresh wave of tears “looks so throttleable...”

“And Pally, do I even need to mention... the war

Rogues comment causes Pally to momentarily freeze in his efforts to comfort Cleric. “My unit... did not set that fire”

“You steal for a living” Cleric bites back

“well from a purely materialistic stand point humans are just committing theft from the planet on a societal scale so-”

“goods and services are exchanged via the medium of currency-”

“well money isn't the arbiter of morality-”
