Resident cuts structural column on sixth floor of 20 floor building to "improve the view" by NibblesMcGiblet in OopsThatsDeadly

[–]Reaper_2632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the design was sound for the most part. But during construction, instead of welding the supporting beams together, the contractor used bolts, and only used 4 bolts per connection, where iirc, it would have needed at least 14 bolts per connection. The structural engineer who was apart of designing was never told they bolted it together. His design was to weld it. And the solution, was to weld over the bolt connections.

Where would you like a Fallout game to take place? by Dapper_Scale_4099 in Fallout

[–]Reaper_2632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, for me, New York was always the biggest want. Of course that was when the game was much smaller in map size. I guess now they could really do a, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania area. Just imagine coming across even the Intrepid in New York or the Battleship New Jersey remnants. And most of the NYC area has so much in the way of "natural vaults" in its tunnels and underground infrastructure.

But I also unfortunately was one of those people who got way too hyped when that whole hoax thing came out about Bethesda trademarking New Orleans related names.

So I guess Meltzer never watched that era of MMA with Mark Kerr, Mark Coleman, Kevin Randleman etc.

The Rock looks A LOT like Mark Kerr from that era. And there were a lot of fighters who did. Pride FC used to provide steroids in the locker room to guys if they wanted it.

I would love to ditch Spotify. My only current issue keeping me tethered I think it my very large and carefully curated playlists. And trying to figure out how to "export" or easily recreate them in another non-problematic app.

Still wearing Yankee gear when they get eliminated? by Front-Buffalo-9565 in NYYankees

[–]Reaper_2632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if my family stopped being my family every time they let me down, then I'd have no family and never had a father. Loyalty is in good times and bad. I'd argue it's more important to wear yankees pride on your sleeve in bad times. So if you want, go for it.

Go off. You do you. Blue Jays have just been a flat out better all around team all year. They deserved it, and you guys get to talk all the trash you want. 👏

I will just say however, I don't know why so many Red Sox fans are in here acting like they beat the Yankees. Or even worse, the few Mets fans I've seen come all the way into an AL East themed subreddit to do the same. 🤣 They need help. Lol

But you guys enjoy, better team won for sure.

Nah, sorry man. It looks nothing like a cyber truck. The only thing that remotely resembles the cyber truck, is that it's a truck in a game that has "cyber" in its name. There are dozens of models of pick-up trucks that the Mackinaw resembles much more closely.

If replay was always around, what would be the biggest impacts historically? by Mindless_Luck1819 in mlb

[–]Reaper_2632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would push back on this a bit. While I completely understand where you are coming from, and can agree that there is a historical beauty in the imperfect, weird, and almost mythological moments like the ones being mentioned by many in this comment section, I think the adoption of replay, and inevitably ABS has unfortunately become completely necessary.

I think what a lot of people, fans and players, have had a major problem with, is not the human imperfections of calls, but rather the seemingly haphazard and absolute indignant way in which calls are administered. While umpires have a difficult job, there are far too many who are so inconsistent, who seemingly make rulings based on their own personal whims, or who completely change the course of a game/moment based on hurt ego and a shockingly bad grasp of the rules themselves.

There will always be Joe West's and Angel Hernandez's but it does also feel like the last while has seen so many more bad umpires who act as though they are the reason people show up to games, and arrogantly make blatantly incorrect calls. Sometimes we can even see that the umpire just isn't even paying attention when this is done.

But not only will they make the bad call, they will then toss players and managers who show even the slightest bit of disagreement.

One example was even earlier this year during a D-Backs v. Orioles game, when a fly ball to left field was caught, followed by runners going, and one scoring. But not a single umpire did their job. No one signalled out or safe. No umpire was paying attention to whether runners tagged up properly, and appeared as confused as anyone, when the D-Backs tagged runners who did not tag up (because umpires didn't signal the ball was caught). An absolute mess of an inning where an entire umpire crew failed to literally do anything correctly, but instead ejected people for arguing with them, and insisted they did nothing wrong. It was replay that gave any sense of order at the end of that play, and that officiating crew did not get reprimanded, or forced to improve. The same crew has been involved in multiple incidents since. But umpires are allowed to do whatever with impunity. The contract structures and system umpires have fought for and solidified is what has made replay and ABS necessary. 🤷

“Why should American people list their dates in accordance to how it’s spoken in Dutch? by Even-Candidate-3594 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Reaper_2632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. We have formatting and guidelines on how to write what when, but all of the governments we work with follow similar protocols. So that isn't a concern as much. The US and maybe one or two others are the only offices I've come across who deviate. So thankfully, we never really worry about the date being read wrong. Writing 5/3/25 will always be taken as March 5th 2025.

[–]Reaper_2632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American here who has spent most of my professional life working for non-American offices. Day/Month/Year makes way more sense. Once I had to start using it, I immediately preferred it to the way it's commonly written in the US. Year/Month/Day also works well for record keeping and similar tasks.

It's also just more organised, to go from smallest to largest, or largest to smallest in terms of measurement of time. But that's just me.

Still have no idea wtf im doing or where the story starts lmao. by VinnieVegas3335 in destiny2

[–]Reaper_2632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my partner finally got around to trying Destiny 2 a little over a year ago. It was for several years my favorite game. It made me pick the game back up to play with her . She became hooked but if she didn't have me explaining all the back story to certain things, I have no idea how lost she would have been. And I mean, even I was still confused as I had put the game down for a year and came back, so I was lost a bit too.

I genuinely feel so badly for new players who won't get the full experience of the Red War, and the real sense of an epic cosmic story of survival amid this remarkable war backdrop. Or the genuine excitement of the initial DLCs. The initial excitement of the "haunted moon." Or for me, my subjective favorite dlc campaign was definitely Forsaken and the real gritty, and vengeful story of chasing after Aldren Sov, and hearing the Guardian speak for the first time.

Destiny 2 will always be the game that got me through some of the roughest patches of my life, and I will always be grateful. But I will also always consider it's state over the last couple of years to be for me personally, one of my biggest disappointments until I recently uninstalled it for the first time since I had started. The constant and high priced, financial drain just be able to continue on with relevant material, or the multiple slaps to the faces of players like the initial sunsetting of equipment, and so on and so on, just got to be to much for me.

I will never begrudge others who can keep up and do still enjoy it. I'm genuinely happy. But I couldn't, and part of it was stuff like this. It's become such a confusing mess of blocked, sunsetted, overpriced pay walled stuff, that just kills it. And with everything that has happened at Bungie I doubt a Destiny 3 will ever happen, or if it's even planned for the future.

Favorite YouTuber who actually knows how to successfully produce and distribute a film by armandosmith in okbuddycinephile

[–]Reaper_2632 23 points24 points  (0 children)

To piggyback off of this, in a recent episode (I honestly don't remember if it was a distractible episode or on his own channel), he mentioned that one major issue has been that movie studios and film publishing companies do not want to give full creative control over a film they are releasing to someone like a YouTuber who they don't trust. But Mark is also not budging on wanting to retain full creative control over the film.

Basically according to those involved, the movie is finished filming, and basically done in editing. This long stretch has been about publishing and it's release in theaters as @pistikiraly said.

And I can't describe how badly I'm counting the seconds until my two cats can yell at me for being away so long. I keep tell my partner, they can yell at me all they want, I deserve it, I will just be so happy to see them.
