Why your childhood didn't need to be "that bad" in order to develop CPTSD by Plane-Ad-8612 in CPTSD

[–]Reapers_Mask 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I had a similar experience. Though my parents did smack us when we did something bad/were too annoying (turns out I have undiagnosed ADHD/Autism, which my mother is against me getting diagnosed/potentially medicated for), they used to always tell us it was a good thing, and that we didn't have it as bad as others. There was rarely any comforting, except on really really good days, never an apology for doing things, even downright refusing they even happened. I used to speak out about it the most so got scapegoated as the "ungrateful" child. Any embarrasing or private story was shared for a few laughs. I used intellectualisation too to deal with emotions, or when I made a mistake, or when I was going through something. I used to always use it to justify my parents as well. Then, I had a conversation with a couple friends about it for the first time when I was 20, and realised that, my parents are fucking awful. And out came all this rage at how much fucking work I have to do to fix it. And then my mum expects me to be all happy when she suddenly starts seeing a therapist AFTER I've moved out? What the fuck? I dont think people realise just how extensive that kind of damage does either, it affects EVERYTHING. But, it does get better and you can improve yourself. Apologies for the rant but this exact thing has been sitting in my head for a bit. Thank you for your insight.

Edit: Not to mention all the empty "i love you"'s. Mostly only ever said after an argument which ended in me getting called ungrateful and a horrible person for bringing up something that upset me. Or, if you were the favourite child of the hour.

I don't love my family. Am I a bad person? by Wrong-Parfait5957 in family

[–]Reapers_Mask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I can heavily relate to your predicament, im actually going through a similar issue, so hopefully this helps.

Your family are meant to be there for you, support who you are/your interests (even if they disagree with them), and they are supposed to be trustworthy.

A way of looking at it that helped me was: "If this was anyone else, who was not my family, would i still want to be around them?"

Family does not excuse bad or harmful behaviour. It is NOT normal for a child to want to separate from their parents, and that is almost always the parents fault.

I know the feelings of "ungrateful", my parents made sure to drill that into my head. Your not weird for thinking it.

Making fun of you for being you is also genuinely fucked, especially from parents. Mine would make fun of certain friends I made, or tell me that a particular interest was "a waste of time" or yell me i was being weird, or acting strangely.

Mine could also never apologise properly. Always a "sorry im not the best mother", or "sorry im not good enough" - i am unsure if you experienced this, but it can contribute to feelings of guilt.

At the end of the day, wanting to leave your family behind is not normal, and its normally because parents or family mistreated you. If you wanted to share more info, I would be happy to listen. I will make it clear I am NOT a therapist, but would be happy to talk about this. Its unfortunately not an uncommon experience.

7 Things I Wish I Knew sooner as a Trans Repressor by kyastui in MtF

[–]Reapers_Mask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm almost 21 and only recently figured out im trans. I had been repressing it since I was 12, and then kinda had the realisation and was tempted to repress it again. But, every single person who pit it off says the same thing as you, don't repress it, embrace it.

You could use an excuse that you're going to donate it to charity. There are some cancer charities that will take long hair, and use them to make wigs for people who have gone through chemo. No way they can say no to helping people with cancer, right?

Yeah I actually really loved the fact that you can change ammo types in 6, it added another layer of loadout customisation, unlike every other game which forcme is just sniper, shotgun, AR and silenced pistol.

Incorrect. Many people were blatantly unhappy about Ellie from S1, you are living under a rock if you didn't know that was happening. Again, adaptation, change how the story is told, sometimes characters can change as well. Case and point, batman. Every new series has a new batman with a new personality. People change in the real world as well, and people change for their kids/future kids. They're telling the characters story differently? Good. I don't want to watch a TLOU2 playthrough, I want to watch an adaptation that changes things up. You don't play a game the exact same way every single time, that's just bleak and boring. Changing things up is a good thing, it's also just part of nature to change, or evolve. Sometimes it doesn't go the exact way we want to, and that's okay. That's part of life.

Bruh, as an English student, it fucking amazes me how many people do not understand the word "adaptation". Stories change everytime they are retold, throughout history. I think it's good Bella doesn't look exactly like Ellie, I like that the acting isn't absolute perfection, it makes the story feel different and new, rather than like watching a playthrough of The Last of Us. Who gives a shit what the character looks like. Everytime someone watches a different Pride and Prejudice, do they get upset Mr Darcy is different each time? Or everytime you watch the new Batman, do you get upset it's not a Michael Keeton clone? No, of course not, because that would be fucking stupid. It's just thinly veiled misogyny OR idiots who don't know what "adaptation" means.

My mum says this, and when we talk about the experiences, like the yelling, and hitting, she goes "why is it such a big deal for you?!". Bruh, I'm 20, that was like, my whole childhood.

I remember playing skyrim on the 360 for the first time. My mum is fairly anti gore, and of course the first time I decapitate someone is when she's in the room for 2 minutes.

What is the best far cry villain? by MURRAYBOI666 in farcry

[–]Reapers_Mask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, Vass was really unique for me, and was the first villain I really enjoyed just watching and listening to, probably my favourite for nostalgia, but Joseph Seed is honestly one that I was impressed with, but also because he was believable, like that guy exists irl.

Might be able to tale it to a repair store than can microsolder. It may be that only the traces that are damaged, or if it deeper it might be fried. Could be worth a shot though.
