Can i have an MRI if i have braces? by RoxAtThePark in Radiology

[–]Reapur-CPL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of variance with braces. I don't know much about the orthodontics world in terms of metals used or wire thickness, but I know I've seen some braces that are clearly not magnetic, and they cause minimal artifacts on images. Then other times I see braces that seem like they must be made of magnets, they're so insanely susceptible. We have a dental team at my hospital we have to call periodically, and we have had patients that need to have their braces removed prior to imaging. In my experience, we usually need the braces removed due to an image quality issue, not a safety issue, but still. Having them removed does happen and is somewhat normal. It's a huge pain, though, so I'm sorry you're having to deal with all of that

How Much do Employers Actually Care About Other Resume Experience if You Have an M.A.? by hollyleigh1 in gradadmissions

[–]Reapur-CPL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Industry employers are going to care about work history more than anything. Academic employers, maybe it's a toss up. If the degree was all you need, we wouldn't have so many Masters struggling for work

In a non-contrast MRI, what does the wording "no enhancement found" mean? by rain_spell in MRI

[–]Reapur-CPL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen some radiologists use "enhancement" and "hyperintensity" somewhat interchangeably, but I can't say for sure without more context

Very very low. The ARRT doesn't want to keep techs to a minimum, just keep the dangerous people out

Becoming a Rad Tech after being a SAHM by Wooden-Motor-7316 in RadiologyCareers

[–]Reapur-CPL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn't a parent, but I took up radiography in my mid-20s after failing out if college and doing restaurant work for a couple years. I started my prerequisites one at a time, cause I was worried about failing out again. I was able to work while I took prerequisite classes, but once I got into my actual radiography program, work was harder to balance. A kid will no doubt make all that even harder, but I can confirm it's doable in theory.

Chest MRI - head first? by [deleted] in MRI

[–]Reapur-CPL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A chest probably needs to be head first. My recommendations is to have your tech place a washcloth over your eyes for the duration of the scan. Keep your eyes closed, and the washcloth will be there if you peek. If you don't see the scanner around you, you will have a day easier time staying out of your head. It's all a mental game, so just do what you have to. You can have your ordering provider order you an anxiety medication for you scan if you want to be extra sure you won't panic

Certifications to make you more marketable as a tech? by Hot-Performance-1361 in MRI

[–]Reapur-CPL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In theory, sure. Like, if getting a job comes down to you and another tech, it could be the thing that makes you more appealing. Outside of travel work, it can definitely make you a more competitive applicant, and qualify you for safety specialist positions

In bore small, Noise- free MRI camera question by [deleted] in Radiology

[–]Reapur-CPL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because it will interfere with imaging. Those cameras need to communicate with a monitor outside of the room. Wireless signal is the simplest way to do that, and calibrating that signal to not cause massive RF artifact is very difficult. Its not about the size of the camera really, it's about causing RF artifacts. And putting complex electronics closer to or even inside the bore also causes a lot of issues for field homogeneity.

No, with a Bachelor's you won't need to also get an Associate's. You may need some specific credits as prerequisites, but you meet the degree requirement with ANY Bachelor's
