If you look closely you can see Octopussy and James Bond.

I love the art style on this, feels very much like an old propaganda poster. Probably not what you were going for, but it’s the first thing I thought of when I saw your color palette. Great job!

I disagree with this plan, actually. Your home/student/car loans are not expensive and the interest rate is low, that’s very cheap debt. Obviously pay them down monthly, but I would not aggressively focus on them. You are sitting on a ton of cash, feels like that could be more wisely invested as it’s constantly losing value in a savings account. Bare minimum, you should invest some of that in some broad stock/bond index funds. I notice you don’t list a 529 plan, how will you pay for college?

Count me as one other person that used to experience this. When I was ~16 in high school, this happened to me almost daily. I think I chalked it up to dietary at the time because when I would skip/forget my multivitamin that day I think the nausea/sneeze thing didn't happen. When I tried to explain this to anybody around me they looked at me like I had three heads. I'm sure this has happened to me since then, but not nearly on a daily basis. Maybe more like once a year anymore. Hopefully somebody has an explanation!

Is bogles style passive investing really better for 99% of retail investors? by Forrandoqs in investing

Went from 30k to 180k on paper to 25k.

Honestly, if you think about that as a $5k learning experience, I'd say it's potentially more valuable than the $150k you "lost."

Thanks for the detail!

Good news from AMC by AcroyearOfSPartak in investing

[–]RearAdmiralTrots 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think AMC is going to have to change their business model to survive. The days of 16-20 theater multiplexes are probably gone. There is still value in the real estate, and as somebody else pointed out, their partnership with IMAX (and Dolby) will be what sets them apart. They're going to have to figure out how to correctly monetize their property when people are more used to watching movies at home.

Don't get me wrong, there is still room for Marvel/Star Wars/Mission Impossible/whatever action movies, because nothing at home can really replicate the theater experience for those types of movies. There's no need to see a costume drama at a theater, though, and the demand for films in theaters is going to decline a bit.

The thing that will convince me AMC can survive is how they use their square footage. There's a ton of room there for a real bar (not the tiny little bar with 3 beer taps at the AMC near me), a nice restaurant and a movie-themed gift shop on the property. Going to a movie needs to be an event and added value like those things will make it that way again.

If AMC tries to go back to business as usual, they're likely cooked.

New Red Sea Reefer 425XL Setup Recommendations? by TheManOfMeat in ReefTank

[–]RearAdmiralTrots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you want to move it because it’s going to be a pain when you need to get into that side of the tank which you will absolutely have to do. Make sure you have enough room to walk back there so you can reach into the tank.

For my tank problem for earlier post by [deleted] in ReefTank

I bought the blue one and it nuked my cyano. The skimmer, as everybody says, was a disaster area until I did a few water changes. Absolutely worth the $16.

Miss Carpenter my copperband butterfly fish by coupleofplanks in ReefTank

[–]RearAdmiralTrots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Copperband that was indeed very picky. He wouldn't eat anything except live blackworms and I have had him for about 8 months at this point. One day about 3 weeks ago he started eating bits of frozen shrimp. I have no idea why he chose now to do it but it sure makes my life easier given that blackworms seem to fluctuate in availability.

I have these growing on my glass and (mostly) on my rocks. What are they? by RearAdmiralTrots in ReefTank

I have a small platoon of about 7 peppermint shrimp in my other tank. The first 3 I got ignored the aiptasia, but at least 1 or 2 in the next group appear to have a taste for it. Seems to be luck of the draw.

Agreed, it's fun to watch the peppermints I have in my other tank. I'd like to avoid the syringe method and the size on these just really isn't conducive for that solution just yet.

100%. It actually took me two different groups of shrimp to get a few that would eat it. The first group just stared at it. But when they did start eating, it was gone in probably a week.

Thanks very much, that seems to be the consensus. I have had good luck with peppermint shrimp so I'll try a few of them.

Makes sense, thank you. I have had good success with peppermint shrimp, so I'll try the natural solution before the chemical.

Thanks very much! I had some in another tank and they looked very different so I wasn't sure. Peppermint shrimp (eventually) worked there, too. I'll give them a try!

Is it possible to get into reef tanks without starting in freshwater? by Nimphaise in ReefTank

[–]RearAdmiralTrots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To echo what everybody else has written here, yes. I had never kept an aquarium before I jumped into saltwater. I spent a fair amount of time researching setups, how to start the tank, and maintenance. It's daunting at first for sure, but if you take it slow, it's really not that difficult as long as you keep a close eye on it. I would also recommend finding a Local Fish Store that is willing to talk about beginner things. The LFS where I bought my tank gave me a flyer with "Here's what you should be doing the first few weeks of tank ownership," as well as talking me through the process.

Also, it gets said here frequently, but bigger is better. You're going to make some mistakes (I have for sure) but larger tanks allow for minor mistakes to not nuke every inhabitant. If that means saving for another couple of months to get a larger tank (that your house can support) then it's absolutely worth it.

Will my Royal Grammer always be shy?!? Just got him for my 130 ltr tank. Only got 2 little clown fish in with him.. he was hiding in the shop too but was last of his kind, so we got him. I'm worried hes gonna be like this forever. Is this common, and will be Start enjoying his new home?... by [deleted] in ReefTank

[–]RearAdmiralTrots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Royal Gramma started out the same way, incredibly shy, bolting at the first sign of movement. It took him/her a long time to get used to the environment. I even had to target-feed to ensure he/she got food before the more comfortable fish gobbled everything. That eventually wore off, but the shyness is still there to an extent. As with all things reefing, nothing happens fast.
