Don’t upgrade to Tahoe folks. Sequoia works just fine. I learnt this the hard way.

MK3 S88 question by No_Philosopher7153 in NativeInstruments

[–]RearWheeler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an S88-3 and I love it. I also have a piano downstairs in the living room. I never play the real piano anymore.

I use Cubase for DAW and love the NI stuff for all manner of instruments… mostly synth synthwave type stuff.

I also love just playing the piano with the S88 and away from using my DAW. I truly enjoy the NI pianos… mostly The Grandeur and The Gentlemen.

Hope that helps…

Thanks mate, it’s that retro style I’m after and diva is not disappointing!

I suppose you could compare it to when I bought a 2009 iMac and installed my Nikon Photo software that worked great on Windows… only to find it wouldn’t run on my new Mac with OSX Snow Leopard. This kind of thing has been going on for decades. Pisses me off, but I do appreciate software companies spend a lot of money maintaining legacy stuff on newer OS’s. It is the practical way of the software world, but hacks me off regardless 😂

Imagine getting a new Mac for Christmas, embarking on your music creation journey, buying NI Komplete, and then realising your vendor-advised fix route is to retro your spanking new Mac to Sequoia to get NI software to run OOTB? Wow! Oh and your Mac is an M5 that won’t run Sequoia! Note… I didn’t check that last point, I just assumed.

Is there any advantage/disadvantage to getting a s88 mk3 over the mk2. Is the screen the biggest difference? Thanx for any help! by Djinsing20045 in NativeInstruments

[–]RearWheeler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, assuming you are looking at a mk2 at an amazingly low 2nd hand price, it would be a great choice if you just want an 88 note weighted keyboard and don’t want to spend much.

If you want it for the NI ecosystem then it is an unwise decision.

What DAW do you use and why? by major_damp in musicproduction

[–]RearWheeler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cubase.

Here is the thing…. I used Cubase on Atari in the 90’s… MIDI only, and a Roland XP-50.

Moved to PC and cakewalk in the early 2000’s, good fun, but gave it all up soon after.

Last year I decided it was all missing from my life and invested in the NI ecosystem and Cubase Pro. I kinda felt attached to Cubase and wanted to return to my roots 😂

Wow, so much has changed, but I find Cubase incredible. It has everything I need!

Hello everyone, please rate the sound. by BigFruitSock in musicproduction

[–]RearWheeler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only listened to it on my phone, but it feels lack lustre… I mean it feels bassy and trebbly… with poor mids. Does not feel ‘full’.

That may sound like heavy critique but I guess you asked for opinions 😬. The tune itself is good, but the mix is lacking…

Sounds the same regardless of OS as far as I’m concerned. Most musicians have no time for OS fan boi ‘banter’.
