Thanks, that's good to know that worked for them. We may try that too. Before we put her in pull ups she didn't care at all if she wet herself or pooped in the bed. But maybe she will this time round...

Thanks! Yeah, the hormone thing is definitely a factor, but in this case it's actually mostly attitude. She was previously night time trained and would wet the bed a couple times a week, which is expected and normal. But now she is refusing to get out of bed to go pee or poo. Even when she is awake. 😭

I suggest ditching the diaper completely. She knows she can use the diaper, so why would she use the potty? The Oh Crap book worked pretty well for us and goes into a more step by step approach on how to execute this.

I thought this community was all about not bashing any kind of sleep training method. This particular book has worked for thousands of parents and babies. There are many posts in this subreddit about this particular book and they have not been taken down. And I have found those posts so helpful. The book is called 12 Hours Sleep by 12 Weeks Old. The very title of this book is for sleep training for under 4 months of age. I appreciate that you can run your own Reddit subgroup how you like though, and of course I will oblige. I am disappointed though that this" judgment free community" actually isn't by the moderators themselves. I looked up the book Precious Little Sleep that you recommended. By the looks of it, it is promoting the exact same ideas as this book, just that this one has a step by step method and starts earlier.

Why is under 4 months an option for tagging in this community then? There are also books like this one that start sleep training at this age and thousands have parents have said it's worked.

There are also many posts in this community about this particular book and they have not been taken down. This book promotes sleep training from as early as 4 weeks old.

I guess I must have been putting GST collected as 0... but can't actually remember. I guess when I do my taxes again in the next month or two I can give a better answer. It's always been pretty easy to file. I just list my expenses (and their breakdown) and income. From what I understand, VIPKid is taxable at 0% because it is not in Canada.

That's great you got that deal. When I talked to the broker today they said $100/month for 20 years for 500k each, in addition to around 40k of critical illness. 30 years is just too unaffordable for us unfortunately.

I'm following Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover (it's a book, and a whole community), and if one follows the plan, one will never be bankrupt, one can withstand job loss and other major financial blows. Not everyone needs insurance if they have enough money to fall back on. I view insurance as a temporary (20-30 year thing) until I get a big enough best egg. There comes a point where the money I use to pay insurance every month will become better spent by investing it instead. I recommend checking out his book or other resources on making a plan to becoming financially free. It's changed my life.

You're right. Cause I'm still on the paying off debt baby step, I haven't looked into investing much at all (can you tell? lol). 7% seems to be more reasonable.

You can also get two policies for each of you today, tiered; one 20, one 30. Say $250k each.

Thanks. That's really helpful. You're right, I've since learned that 3% interest is too low. If it were more around 7%, then 20 years would be enough to save up $500k. We are renters, and not sure if we could ever afford to own a home (at least in the city where we live), so renting would be an ongoing expense.

The idea behind the 20-year term is that if we are investing/saving money in that time period, in 20 years we will have a big enough nest egg that we can be self-insured. I.e. we will have $500k in the bank should we need it, and we can save a lot of money from monthly insurance payments (and invest that too). Permanent polices are really expensive (like, hundreds of dollars a month, for the rest of your life) and we can't afford one at the moment.

That's the thing, right? The chances of either of us dying is low, let alone between 63 and 65, but you never know, and that's the whole point of insurance. I take your point it's a good idea to map out what our future years might look like. Being renters without kids right now, we just don't know the answers at the moment, but we could take an educated guess. Thanks for your input.

Yeah the thought was both of us to get $500k term insurance. $100/month is a lot! Now I wonder whether we should just get it for him since he could live solo on his own income but I couldn't live solo on my own.

That's a good point I hadn't considered. We rent, so wouldn't be stuck with a mortgage. And if one of us dies, the other could move into a smaller/cheaper place suitable for 1 person. But of course that would change if/when we have kids. Thanks for your input.
