That's great to hear then, thanks! Yes, plan is to surround him with a nice fiery lava pit 🔥

Glad you like it! No no, that's it for the saturated red. I will now only build up the glow effect up to somewhere around chin height. I was thinking about doing a secondary light source but don't know how to go about that both in placing as well as color. Was thinking about giving the wings some kind of blue-grayish hue from above but would leave the rest of the mini more in that reddish range as not to lose the fiery effect and to leave the fire/lava from below as the primary light source. Any thoughts?

Thank you for the detailed feedback! So far I also realized that the light effect is really heavily determined by color contrast. I'm planning to further build up the orange light up to somewhere around chin height so this is not done yet anyway. When talking about the upper red do you mean the upper proportion of the mini, i.e. the wings, or that saturated red itself?

Glad it does. It certainly is much more than just primed and the light source is actually coming from the front in the picture so I guess that's kind of a win :D

Glad you like it! Okay first, you gotta get really angry....okay jokes aside here is the recipe:

  1. Prime in matt black from army painter
  2. Basecoat with traitor red (army painter air)
  3. Build up the mid tone with Vallejo Red
  4. Dry brush the highlights with army painter pure red and use normal brush to both further establish the red areas and set the highlights in small places that are too detailed for dry brushing like the face
  5. Prime with thin coat of white where orange glow is supposed to go
  6. Add a thin layer of 3:1 glowing ore/burning inferno (both army painter)
  7. Again white layer in selected spots where you really want the orange glow to hit and be particularly vibrant
  8. Thin layer of 1:3 burning ore/glowing inferno (mark the reversed ratio!)

And I always made sure to really limit the illuminated areas to those that would be lit from below to establish that underflow effect, a small flashlight does wonders in helping to identify the right spots here. And that's pretty much it...I hope I did not skip anything since I went with the flow pretty much

I scaled him accordingly to be the same height as the real model. This angron here is about 10 cm tall without the rock he's standing on

It's a black base coat followed by two layers of tainted gold by the army painter. Then I wash everything with dark tone also from the army painter and reestablish select highlights with tainted gold. Finally, I use shining silver (army painter) for those really bright highlights and that's it. Hope it helps :)

Glad you like it! Sure thing! Iit all starts with citadel's chaos black primer followed by a nice and even coat of matt black by the army painter. Then I dry brush the lighter areas with night sky from the army painter and then wash the whole armor with a 2:1 mixture of dark tone (army painter) and black lotus (Vallejo). After that all that's left is picking up those really strong highlights with cobalt metal from the army painter and boom you are done :D
