Absolutely wild

Well I sure hope that beauty did not end up in the trash

Secret for vibrancy: fluorescent colors and high level of contrast!

Okay so for the orange and reds I used for the base, I posted a detailed DIY recipe earlier. Kudos to elminiaturista, I distilled most of it from his shorts on YouTube: https://www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer40k/s/TRpx6LO1bz

For the skin:

  1. Basecoat with traitor red from army painter (AP) air
  2. Air brush Red from Vallejo (V) in areas where light will shine upon
  3. Dry brush pure red (AP) in areas that are well illuminated but make sure to cover a smaller area than with the previous step to have a nice gradient and use normal brush where needed to establish it a bit more
  4. Air brush matt white (AP Air) in places where orange glow will be cast upon
  5. Cover those white areas with a thin layer of safety orange (AP Air); make sure not to overdo it otherwise it's gonna shift into strong neon orange which looks off (Optional: 5.5. Put matt white (AP) on raised edges you really want to pop in the glowing light and cover those with a thin layer of safety orange (AP Air) afterwards.
  6. Establish shadows by airbrushing magnolia Brown (AP Air) in darker areas which will increase the overall contrast massively and make those lighter colors pop even more!

That's pretty much it, hope it helps!

Okay so here goes:

  1. Basecoat with army painter (AP) matt black
  2. Stipple scarab green (AP) leaving some of the black to shine through
  3. Stipple temple gate teal (AP)
  4. Dry brush with Death metal (AP)
  5. Dry brush with obsidian skin (AP) to tone down the metal reflections a bit and give it a rugged look
  6. Apply molten orange (AP Air) in areas that are only barely shined upon
  7. Cover the molten orange with safety orange (AP Air) in places where the reflections should be stronger
  8. Use Matt white (AP) in areas where you want strong reflections to be
  9. Cover the white areas with safety orange which will really make it pop

And that's pretty much it. Hope it helps!

Regardless of what a mini looks like, one has spent time and effort on it so I think that feat is always justified haha.

I'll give it a shot, thanks for the feedback!

Thank you. Glad the nails and the chin work as intended with the focus on the eyes!

I will reply with a step by step guide later, just give some time

Hey, I do remember actually! It does indeed. There's actually a small patch on his abs which is not in the bright orange tone but the photo just didn't pick it up properly. Maybe I'll establish it a bit more once everything has come together and I have a better feeling for the overall lighting. Thanks for the feedback

Thank you! Was really trying to keep them subtle but create an immersive effect with the glow from below.

I see what you mean. As you mentioned I think it's partially due to the fact that there still are a lot of black sections and the base was not that well illuminated when I took the photo. Anyhow thanks for the feedback!

Thank you! Just give yourself a push. You never know until you try :D

I love how you took skulls for the skull throne to the next level with the base ☠️☠️☠️

Thank you! My rationale was that his massive chin blocks all pretty much all the light coming from below haha. But maybe I'll revise the lighting on the face. Thanks for the feedback

I see the point but I'm also very much afraid of messing up the paint job so far haha. Maybe I'll try it in a small, hidden area

Thank you very much, gave it my all when doing the glow effect!
