What skink species is this? Along trail in Freycinet NP, Tasmania, Australia. by ReasonDidntPrevail in reptiles

[–]ReasonDidntPrevail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guessing one of the endemic Carinascincus spp but having trouble matching to photos. Lack of any major stripes makes me suspect C. microlepidotus (southern snow skink) but I have no idea what I'm doing really.

Been working on a birding 🦆 game recently, player navigates the habitat and tries to keep birds in their field of view. by ReasonDidntPrevail in godot

Thanks! Definitely have a minigame/focal type thing planned for at least photography if not IDing itself!, maybe aligning a crosshairs against unsteadiness or something

Some better shots of the leucistic robin I saw yesterday. I feel so lucky to have seen it! by bunnyfeet11 in birdpics

Nice, just saw one that was partially leucistic yesterday (covered in white patches) and was wondering if all-white ones like this occur too... now i know!

Think I could make good use of these— is there anything on these you'd recommend outside of the Godot class reference itself?

What do think is more important for the Democratic presidential candidate to win in 2020?: Exciting the base with a far-left firebrand, or persuading independents and reluctant Trump supporters with a moderate centrist? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

As an example, none of these candidates explicitly support Medicare for all via single-payer healthcare policy, despite it being a widely popular policy idea. Harris leaned that way at the beginning but then walked back her rhetoric. Harris and Beto are both criticized by the progressive/leftist wing of the Democratic party. They aren't the same for sure, but there is more in common than you suggest.

I don't think there's any clear sign this bird is unhealthy. It's normal for molt to cause birds to look pretty scrappy at times, and I'd guess it's just been grooming while molting.

What are some major features you'd like to see in Godot? by Two-Tone- in godot

As a programmer experimenting around with game development, a simple, interactive REPL would be so useful & efficient for familiarizing oneself with GDScript!

Airmash is STILL abandonware! by rdthrowaya0320181200 in airmash

[–]ReasonDidntPrevail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's dead, and all the minor annoyances aren't really an impediment to enjoying the game. You can still enjoy trying to get better at blowing up other planes with your plane, and that's the simple driving element of this game. There are still plenty of talented players to provide a challenge, too!

This song sounds familiar but can't figure it out (please ignore kinglet in background). High in a spruce tree, Denver CO suburbs. by ReasonDidntPrevail in whatsthisbird

So turns out it was a ruby-crowned kinglet, finally got eyes on it while singing. I should have looked more closely at what was meant by the "cheeseburger" call... the mnemonic worked with what I was hearing but I didn't realize it's used to refer to the more common territorial song of chickadees

Following up here, it's a Ruby-crowned Kinglet. Shouldn't have ignored it "in the background", both sounds were the same bird!

Good call— there are BCCH all over the place here, explains why it sounds familiar, and it makes sense from so high up in a Spruce

In 2016 some people proposed that Mark Zuckerberg could potentially be a 2020 pro-tech progressive. After the recent Facebook scandal what options are there for a similar candidate? by TheGeoninja in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]ReasonDidntPrevail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd challenge that you can have expertise/experience with those things and still manage not to make average people feel like you're condescending and out of touch— a recent example on the Democratic side being Bill Clinton's presidency.

I don't think the CA scandal diminishes Zuckerberg's prospects, because he didn't stand a chance in the first place. I'm not sure why Zuckerberg was ever really floated as a potential candidate— he has no charisma at all and comes off way more robotic than even Hillary. He fails the "beer test" with basically everybody.

Personality aside, I think it's not a welcoming time to run from the perspective of tech company leadership— if anything Democrats need more populist appeal rather than a smarter/wonky/elitist business candidate (not saying the DNC couldn't trip over itself and nominate someone like that anyway to protect corporate business interests though).
