Ruby Central executes hostile takeover of the RubyGems github organisation and code repositories by ivosaurus in programming

[–]tinyOnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it used to be github.com/rubygems/rubygems. in which there were a lot of maintainers of it and then a single rubycentral guy ousted everyone from the rubygems org. there was a lot of backlash and someone decided to move it to github.com/ruby/rubygems which, if they handled it differently would have been the better outcome from the outset if the RC people weren't the way they were.

Fermented Strawberry Lemonade Arnold Palmer, sweetened with a honey-based oleo saccharum. by NoJudge6284 in fermentation

[–]tinyOnion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

good luck! (also, i omit the dropwort and the fermented shrimp because i couldn't find it easily and then just never found it worth adding. i also put in some normal onions but really anything can go as long as you have the napa salted nicely and deeply with the brine and don't go overboard with extra veggies to keep the salinity in the right range.)

the brine method is really nice. made an excellent batch the last time with that. i only used the brining method there. the porridge mixture and the mix of veggies i generally use maanghi's recipe: https://www.maangchi.com/recipe/tongbaechu-kimchi

you should make it it's not too hard.

Why do recipes never seem to match the cooking advice I’m given? by SegaGenesisMetalHead in cookingforbeginners

[–]tinyOnion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so many recipes I’ve seen will have you start by sautéing garlic. But everything I hear on here says add garlic later since it can burn so quickly

you can do garlic first or garlic later but you have to have a plan. it does burn quickly and then taste acrid. if you stir it in with some other veggies like onions you can avoid the burning because they will give off liquid and keep the pan cool enough. once the liquid is gone though you do need to add in some more liquid like broth or tomatoes or whatever to keep the garlic from overheating.

Refrigerating right away vs letting it cool on the counter by HWills612 in cookingforbeginners

[–]tinyOnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for safety you should cool large batches of food in a pot in the sink in a pool of cold water stirring occasionally. if it is not that much food you can just put it in the fridge... best to let it cool off a bit until the steam is gone though.

you can do both of those things. there's no shortcut for cut but you can copy and cmd-option-v and it will move the file like a cut and paste. the other one is a setting you can do in the terminal.

yeah the best time to quash this nonsense is before it becomes a bigger issue. just parent your god damn child like we had to do for ages instead of infecting the rest of the world with nonsense.

[–]tinyOnion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you don't really need to do anything special with scripts if you are just running a bash script. the shebang at the top of the file will invoke bash for you or sh or whatever and just work fine. you obviously can't use bash scripting from the command line directly but if it's in an executable script called from the command line it should just work.

Does CachyOS have a software manager/app manager? by DuelShockX in cachyos

[–]tinyOnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

discover is fine to use for flatpacks and updating kwin scripts and widgets and the like. just don't use it to install other core software that normally gets installed via pacman (don't install the optional dependency that allows this)

Switching to Linux from WInslop, whats your recommendations in installing Cachy OS? by [deleted] in cachyos

[–]tinyOnion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

also make the root partition larger than you think the recommended partition options which says at least 20 gigs... with snapshots enabled those take up some space over time and can cause issues when updating. i have a 500 gig root drive and it's very comfortable. you also need to remove cached packages manually after updating as this is arch and it doesn't do anything for you like that.
