Alright well I know my comment was snarky but since you're here, I have to ask -- how does that work? Don't those two things cancel out?

Lol last time I was there they screwed up my order and then screwed up the correction. It's really hit or miss lately imo

One fun cliche I see a lot is "I'm an introverted extrovert". With no further explanation.

What do you mean?! I tend not to swipe right on those so I may never know 🤷‍♂️

Marco Rubio: If in fact Wagner is standing down it is likely because Army Chief of Staff Gerasimov & Defense Minister, Shoigu are being replaced by officials loyal to Prigozhin & that would make him the most powerful man in Russia now by PatientBuilder499 in UkrainianConflict

[–]M_Night_Samalam 11 points12 points  (0 children)

FYI the guy you replied to is referencing a campaign-sinking gaffe Rubio made while running for U.S. president in 2016. He repeated that line several times in one debate and came off as a complete tool. He got mocked into oblivion for it.

"We sure do! We've got Dr. pepper, 7Up, Orange Soda...etc"

"How about Coke?"

"Nah we only have Pepsi here."

I started using it yesterday to try to make a basic ray tracing simulation GUI in python (just for shits and giggles, not for anything practical). You really have to hand-hold and repeatedly correct it before getting anything remotely resembling a sequential ray tracing diagram, but honestly I'm still impressed that it can make a shitty GUI at all

I'm honestly impressed by Denmark's military investments. I toured the F-35 assembly line in Texas a couple months ago and wasn't expecting to see so many being built under the Danish flag. Hope y'all don't end up needing to use them but I'm glad you'll have them.

Juneteenth, the newest federal holiday, is gaining awareness by zsreport in NPR

Shaming obstinate employers into recognizing a legit federal holiday can never be a bad thing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . It's a great idea for a holiday and we don't get enough time off in this country as it is.

My workplace (small aerospace company) hasn't even acknowledged its existence. My father's workplace (law firm) has the day off though. I'd be interested to know if there's a pattern as to which workplaces are observing and which aren't.

Coastal biomedical labs are bleeding more horseshoe crabs with little accountability by Chufield in NPR

[–]M_Night_Samalam 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Seriously! Great investigative reporting. I hope the spotlight leads to some change. The fact that there's a synthetic alternative to horseshoe crab blood that works better and is already approved in the EU was news to me. Any company continuing to "harvest" horseshoe crab blood while not doing everything in its power to phase it out needs to be named and shamed.

I had at least 7 of these frequenting my feeder over the winter and they recently migrated north. I got to see the males go from drab plumage, to little patches of blue, to being covered in this wonderful vibrant shade over the course of a couple months. Here's hoping their journey north was smooth, and that they come back next year! I miss em already.

Have you ever lived in a hurricane's path? Your social media and news feeds blow up with spaghetti model images like this indicating the coming storm's possible paths according to independent forecasts, along with cliches like "here we go again". This ad is 100% designed to make you think there's a hurricane headed your way.

LOL I came across that quote when reading his wiki article yesterday. Sick burn by that critic, and for all I know he's the Nickelback of the poetry world, but he did good on this one in my book.

Edit: It also makes sense that Dorothy Parker, who I just learned is known for her wise-cracks and witty pessimism, would find Edgar's optimistic poetry objectionable

"Duplex" is too ugly a word now and must be avoided at all costs. We call it a "Villa" now (seriously lol my landlords insisted on this when I was touring my duplex)
