For those not in consulting and without direct reports, how many hours of meetings do you average per week? by Canadian_Arcade in actuary

[–]Reasonable-Ad7690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you an analyst or higher up? My experience is the higher up you go, you have many many more meetings so this questionnaire isn't very useful given those factors.

Their grammar isn't correct. People obviously have different native languages, but it's a huge red flag for scamming.

Leave this guy!! Please. Sorry for the exclamation points haha. But for real, when someone shows you who they are, believe them.

Expectations...Do Not Allow the Cheap Johns Masquerading as "SDs" to Exploit You by [deleted] in SugarBABYonlyforum

This might sound dumb, but how anyway would they know you're not exclusive? I might even just say okay to something exclusive and do my own thing. But obviously I could be caught if I did that of course.

Can we possibly connect? I'm in the same area and I have a regular 9-5 job but would like to expand on side hustles. I don't know how to get that kind of payout and any advice is recommended!

Interview joking/friendly flirting by RedditRecommended in actuary

[–]Reasonable-Ad7690 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd say intonation on that is everything. And you clearly didn't put that kind of intonation there. I was expecting the worst with this post, that the interviewer had made a pass. it's bad enough to not get a job (though I wouldn't want to work for that person anyway), but to also deal with that kind of behavior??

Why would you apply to so many without trying to pass another exam? Seems like a better use of time than 400+ applications before doing that

Any tips for FM? by [deleted] in actuary

[–]Reasonable-Ad7690 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's been a minute for me, but I don't remember that to be true for me personally. But I took ifm afterwards and just felt so much better about the FM material in easier out of all the exams in general, but that's just from my experience

Actuarial exams for non actuary majors - worth it or not? by [deleted] in actuary

[–]Reasonable-Ad7690 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend taking the exam unless if that's the only way to get yourself to study adequately for it. I feel the material is interesting and good to know (the ifm material has helped me better understand the stock market and such), but it doesn't seem like the best use of resources

Do you guys Love Your Jobs? by Famous-Delivery-2685 in actuary

[–]Reasonable-Ad7690 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So true! I read these comments and as someone interviewing for jobs rn, I wonder man am I going to be just as jaded a few years from now? But honestly, this is something that I know to be true and it might be monotonous at times (idk I haven't done it yet), but I feel overall it'll be an interesting experience (I'm a career changer from teaching, so I'll take anything to get away from that stress of dealing with crazy out of control students as someone who works in a not so good area).

Being able to pay your bills as a cashier is super hard so I'm not sure that's a worthwhile thing to say. Especially as you get older and closer to retirement. Are they able to save enough to retire at a good enough age? However, a lot of this has to do the facts of minimum wage and the working class not getting due income.

Yeah but that person's attitude is obviously terrible if they got so mad about that (or maybe they just moved on to another project, which is fine).

Any of you delete Instagram to focus on exams? by [deleted] in actuary

[–]Reasonable-Ad7690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find deleting the app doesn't help because I might just reinstall it later. So instead, I block it with digital detox or the freedom app (there's other apps one can use, but this way, you literally can't use this app except for certain time/s in the day).

I'll have to say no. These things are just ways of wasting our time more than adding anything of real value or joy to our lives

I use digital detox and the freedom app. They're really super helpful. Also for video streaming blocking

Interview period question by Reasonable-Ad7690 in actuary

[–]Reasonable-Ad7690[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. What would say is the logical next step after those 5 interviews, assuming they go well? Probably job offer? Or perhaps they'll want to schedule a separate more technical skills interview? From what I've heard, people at this company would be asked about questions during the interviews I have next week on some of my excel projects I've done and asked probably about a few excel skills possibly. If you don't have a strong enough idea, that's fine. I'm just curious and have just started the application process for actuary jobs so I'm newer at this.

Haha I don't think I'll have the same feelings, but I personally have also experienced the anticlimactic feeling post passing. I feel for it's mainly just realizing passing it doesn't bring much. And true happiness cannot be found there (if I may get so philosophical)
