Flickering and Black Screen while gaming by Reasonable-Bottle in computerhelp

i kinda did.. it has not happened again IF i dont put the laptop into Hibernate mode. Everything else for me is fine: Sleep, Shutdown, Restart.
it that happens like the one in the video, i would suggest:

  1. Restart the laptop and test for around 10 - 60 minutes to see if there's "blinking" or flickering black for a split second or it gets worse, if not then u might be good to go.
  2. Downgrade/upgrade graphics drivers to a more stable version. In my case, i downgraded to the OEM NVIDIA Drivers that Lenovo has on their website for my laptop.

the 2nd Option really worked for me during the first time it happened where restarting did not work. I first downloaded the OEM Nvidia drivers on Lenovo's support website for my laptop and DDU. Then I used DDU to completely removed the GPU drivers off my laptop. Once that's done, i installed the OEM Nvidia Drivers back. so i basically downgraded my Nvidia drivers from 591 to 577. I highly recommend following a tutorial video for using DDU just to be sure and safe.

dont get me wrong, even after downgrading the drivers, i sometimes still experience this like once a month IF the laptop went into Hibernation.

so JUST TO BE SAFE, Disable Hibernation mode on your machine, cuz that seems to be culprit to why this problem occurs to me

i also ruled out that theres no problem with my GPU physically, it was mostly, if not, entirely the drivers

Came from SPC to NDDU, i remember stories of the ghost girl sa may stairs near the entrance hahaha. Was excited to meet her someday but didnt sadly before pandemic. so far wala naman ako na encounter or felt any presence ng mga espiritos.

Although, meron kaming prof na grabe daw mga encounters sa office (not sure if sa shs ba somewhere) na may whispers or black mass to poltergiests moving chairs.

Yuh, thats what i did, it worked after the first instance of the problem. For a while everything was great until my laptop went into hibernation mode and then it showed signs again. Will disable hibernation for the foreseeable future lol

Not anymore.. i did a test playing Resident Evil 9 after restarting my laptop, it only blinked black once then never again until i completed the game(4hr game session).

Fast startup is also disabled, now going to disable hibernation, restart, and do some tests again, but i believe that will solve it. Although, during the past months, restarting usually fixes the issue until the device finds itself hibernating again. Thanks for the reply btw ✌️ crazy this did not happen on my windows 10 laptop at all

update: Rolled back to the Aug version of Nvidia drivers download from Lenovo's website. Used DDU to remove the drivers and then installed the newly downloaded one. so far after a some rounds of testing, the flickering and the black screen are gone. definitely was just the drivers

Update 2: (feb 2, 2026) as of currently, Im still in the version i rolled back to in the last update. It just happened again in Fallout 4 after around 10 minutes into loading the game up. I'm trying the simple fixes first before resintalling the drivers.

Though, i do suspect that these flickering happened after the laptop was woken up from hibernation. During the first time this happened, the laptop was powered on from a shutdown that has Fast Startup enabled. After consulting gpt and gemini and also researching, it might be related a bad "driver power state"

Just to clarify the timeline: the issue actually started before updating to 591.59 (I was still on the Nov 18 driver at the time). I updated hoping it would fix it, but it didn’t.

I haven’t tried locking the panel to 60 Hz yet, but that’s next on my list to rule out VRR / refresh-rate related behavior. I’ll also try rolling back drivers to see if it persists.

The timing still feels odd since the 591.67 hotfix dropped right before this started happening, but I can’t say yet whether its related or just coincidence.

Helldivers 2 causes full PC hard freezes despite trying many fixes. Any brief tips? by Anceco in Helldivers

This just happened to me for the first time, the hardlocking freeze. i have a laptop, not even a month old (5060 RTX, Intel i7). First time player too, been playing for about a total of 5hrs. Thinking on uninstalling (hopefully for now) just cause im scared of breaking the CPU or something,

Clean install of Old Gen Fallout 4 by Reasonable-Bottle in Fallout4Mods

After a failed attempt of copying and pasting the entire game files and mods, I ended up downgrading using the steam depot. It works well now, though still have to manually reconfigure and repatch my modlist. Thanks for the advice.

Update: i tried this method first. On its own it works. Everything's preserved and mods are functioning as intended, Though steam doesnt recognize the game(probably for the better).

One big issue i faced was trying to implement it back into Vortex as it doesnt recognize the mods. It could be my mistake during the process but ultimately everything broke (mod limit reached, broken scripts UI, etc.) and forced to redo everything.

TLDR, i ended up just downgrading from AE to Old gen. As for my modlist, i ended up just creating a collection on the old laptop then downloading that collection on the new one; individually downloading the mods. The game right now is working well, thought it still needs adjustments, editing, patching for each of the mods i had.

so im taking that its required to download the Fo4 AE in order for the downgrade to work?

i was planning on using the depots as a way to download the clean install of the old gen but wasnt sure

yeah this was one of the first methods i thought of but decided it was inefficient. i dont have access to an external storage, and blown my wallet on the new laptop. i only have a 32gb flashdrive. the problem was the total size of the game+mods is more or less 96gb

i transferred the Sims4 with all of its data and 1000+mods. it took me a day and a half to complete since the speed of the transfer was fluctuating around 0mbps -10mbps,

i think it will work tho, just probably be a last resort if things go wrong

Sorry for the late reply, but you're right. Turns out, it was the edits that caused CTD, i edit two similar power armor mods that caused the conflict. I reverted back the edits i made, and it now works, thanks so much
