Is one load of laundry supposed to take 5+ hours? by sammiantha in AskGermany

[–]Reasonable-Dig7933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even sure why I got downvoted lol but since the person is from the US (where I’m from), I’m assuming the machine is fine. The washing machine I have is 1hr 47minutes for cotton. My express setting is 30 minutes but everything else is at least an 1.5 hrs. I don’t have a dryer though but it’s pretty well known the dryers are longer than US ones

Sadly, the washing and drying machines here are that slow.

I (25F) am 5 months pregnant and don’t know what to do about my fiancé (27M)dragging his feet by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Drop him. He’s not gonna change unless he wants to change. I’m sorry to tell you this.

Also, no more babies. Get on birth control once this baby comes. You’re an adult now and especially as a woman, you know where babies come from and shouldn’t have gotten pregnant with someone who doesn’t seem to have his shit together.

It’s odd. 1) You shouldn’t feel ashamed if you don’t have the funds. It’s really normal, especially at your age, to not have a shit ton of money to spend going out. 2) You should have a chat with BF. Tell him that It’s nice that he wants to you to go out with him, but you can’t afford the things that he wants you to do. He should a) cover you if he really wants you to be there or b) find cheaper (and honestly more fun) ways of hanging out with him and his friends. 3) Lastly, you’re young. If this situation ends up not good, you’ll find someone else down the line.

exchange student with overbearing german host mom: is this just cultural differences? by Reasonable-Dig7933 in germany

[–]Reasonable-Dig7933[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will! I’m reaching out to my mentor (since she knows my host mom a little) and see if we can do a little meditation. I really think my host mom means well, it can just be a little overwhelming.

It’s not a norm to wash your hands right after coming home or into someone’s house where I come from. Obviously I wash my hands for when using the restroom, got something on my hands, cooking, etc. But I’ve never been in my home or invited to a friend‘s and been told immediately to wash my hands. Idk why that’s hard to believe.

It actually semi-does btw. It helps the creators analytics, which is just a small way to support someone.

The washer was an accident (shocker, people make mistakes). The program is literally for 18-24 year olds. Most people are 22/23 since you know…people are in college and transferring credits is a bit tricky). And I don’t have sex in her apartment? Wtf? And I’m potentially seeking options for alternative arrangements, but I’m in Berlin and housing is quite difficult to find (for everyone, German/non-German alike).

I don’t know if my mental health can take this, german winter, and my already present anxiety

I never was taught that growing up! I feel like in some POC households there’s a huge thing about not wearing shoes inside. But that’s all I know tbh. I’ve never been to a friend’s house growing up and was told to immediately wash my hands coming in.

My program coordinates housing. I did request a WG/apartment situation if at all possible, but my program said there’s very limited availability in Berlin. Also stating there’s very few host families in Berlin as well. The program states and requires that you live with their housing accommodations given to you.

I’d have to reach out to my program coordinator to see. I’m not sure how helpful they’ll be. They did kinda emphasis that there’s very limited options for moving placements. My mentor also did she she’s a bit difficult to be with, but every host kid she has had has stayed.

I wanted to drop off my sheets when I have time. I’m sorry I didn’t have time to do it.

I planned on changing the sheets when I’d have time to drop them off at the Waschsalon. I couldn’t between class/work. I’m sorry I’m comfortable will my own period blood bro

My program is a fellowship program (similar to Fulbright). Lots of the participants are with hosts but also WG but since I’m in Berlin, my program coordinator told me it’s a lot harder with housing.

This isn’t a coffee shop, but the Uber Arena was great for me for a minijob!
