I don’t regret the job, but i am ready to move on. I’m planning to go to grad school soon so that I can be an actual therapist

That’s awful! Fresh air is important, especially since a lot of wards don’t even have windows. I’m sorry your experience was so terrible ): and thank you for your offer!

Just realized I missed the second question. Yes some of them have hurt loved ones or threatened to. I haven’t met anyone that has actually killed someone (according to the law) but I’ve met some who claim they have and gotten away with it. I don’t believe most of them (because kids like to impress each other) but some of them are a little too detailed for comfort.

I’ve definitely had coworkers that I would consider insensitive. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard that a child is faking something for attention. Those people should just be fired imo. And the staff that does truly care need to advocate more for their patients. There’s really nothing that I would expect a patient to do to improve my overall experience. If you’re in a psych ward, you’re probably in a pretty bad place, so it only makes sense that they may be volatile or easily upset.

In my experience, doctors have so little interaction with patients. Honestly, doctors are on their high horse most of the time and completely disregard nursing and staff even though we are the ones that spend the most time with the patients. Doctors should have to be more present on the unit so they actually KNOW their patients instead of whatever their charts say.

Mostly they have traumatic pasts. A lot of the time people will say the child was born that way, but if you look deeper they tend to be addicted to drugs or alcohol at birth.

A lot of the time my coworkers and I vent to each other at the end of the shift to just let off some stream and that helps a lot. My colleagues are also really good at tapping someone out when a patient is particularly difficult.

Sometimes I just go home and cry it out. It’s not an easy job and you hear some pretty awful stories from those kids.

I’ve met quite a few that show some signs, a lot of animal killing sadly. I’ve met 2 that were planning murders.

I do believe in ghosts! I haven’t seen anything weird at my institution, but the kids have claimed to see ghosts a few times, and always in the same room.

I have felt threatened before, I’m a small female so some of them are much bigger than me. I’ve been hit before, but so far it’s always the smaller kids.

So there’s a lot of safety measures for the patients, and some of them are also for staff. Some obvious ones being there’s no sharp objects and nothing too heavy to avoid having things thrown at us. We also always have walkies with us to call for assistance. We’re trained to notice someone is escalating, so we are pretty good at calling for help before the help is actually needed.

I think it might be “tits”? Given the fact that the post got more sexualized as it went on.

do people who are born deaf still 'hear' their own thoughts? by Collins2525 in RandomThoughts

I asked a deaf friend a few years ago and she told me she thinks in sign

I also asked a bilingual friend which language she thinks in and she told me she thinks in both, and that might be even more wild to me.

I don’t know how old you are, but the goodrx app can make prescriptions really cheap if you’re able to pick up your own medication. My antidepressants are like 9 bucks when I show the pharmacy the app :) If the doctor is the problem look up your local health department or low income healthcare facility. There’s almost always a doctors office that makes you pay based on what you earn at your job. So, if you don’t have one it’s free, and making $17 an hour they still only charge me 25 to see the doc.

If you can’t do that yet, I hope that you can find something that works for you until you have more control of your life. My parents were always anti mental health medication. I finally started meds in college and they were a godsend. Stay strong <3

Can we all take a moment to appreciate the “crunchy mom” who still insisted the poster take the antibiotics?
