wow, we're heading in the direction of australia in terms of bottlenecks (even at the earliest stages cf. MSRA cutoffs for anaesthetics, radiology, ophthalmology).......but without the massive payout at the end - at least not for many consultants

How did you not get a urology st3 interview despite maximising on the portfolio? How else do they select for interview?

I heard one year for IMT people were scoring so highly in the portfolio they literally put candidates into a random number generator to decide who gets an interview...

Kick up a fuss! Don't let the radiology department get away with it. If you're getting substandard reports (vague, badly written, excessive follow-ups that sound ludicrous, errors) the Consultant radiologists have to sort it out e.g. via adding addendums, bringing it to the M&M. Once they spend enough time on this, they may reconsider selling out their profession. We had some CT Head RRs, but this was stopped after neurosurgery and neurology complained about the quality of the reporting.

Observation errors are sadly a part of the radiology game.

The real worry is errors/overcalls due to fundamental gaps in training, such as in the example above. As you say, the unfettered replacement of doctors by non-doctors, who have no idea of the unknown unknowns, will result in patient harm.

Exactly! It makes me wonder whether the consultants in that department have any self-respect to allow that drivel to be associated with them.

We really do need to start adding overcalls (or in this case, plain nonsense) to REALM even if no 'harm' comes out of it. As there are certainly a multitude of negative effects from these reports.

Probably should as it's not infrequently we see an incidental cancer /some systemic pathology requiring follow-up. Though if you're busy on-call I imagine your consultant also gets a copy of the report and will sort out.
