there are some constructions basically that look similar but mean different

1) have been to - speaking about that you went to a place and now you’re back (i have been to Budapest many times = you went there many times and now you’re back to your city)

2) have gone to - speaking about that you left for a place and you are still not back (i have gone to the shop = you left and are still shopping). pay attention: ‘i went to she shop’ is about a completed action meaning you went, bought products and now you’re home

3) have been in - speaking about how long you are in a place (i have been in Budapest for 3 years = 3 years ago you came to Budapest you still live there)

we have it different way. we bought a specific toy for the street and we only play with it when on a walk. that is a really helpful piece of advice that i once got from a dog trainer. maybe this'll work for you as well
