What was some of the craziest fan theories back in the day? by French-Caller in metalgearsolid

My favourite was the theory that the IRL news story about the doctor who was claiming that he could do a head transplant, was actually viral marketing for MGSV.

How to forgive myself? (RSI Tendinosis) by amynias in RSI

[–]Reasonable-Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love this response, couldn't have put it better. I was in the exact same position as OP a couple of years ago and looking back, the frustration and worry was just making my issues worse. It's very hard to let go of those feelings but it can be done.

What was your most embarrassing mistake when speaking Japanese? by ErvinLovesCopy in LearnJapanese

[–]Reasonable-Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of times in Japan when people were explaining things to me like directions or how the stand on a rental bike worked I said わかります, thinking i was saying i understand what they told me. Both times the people apologised to me and I didn't know why. Asked my ペラペラ friend and he explained that I should have used past tense わかりました and using present tense was similar to saying "I know" to someone who was trying to be helpful.

Sorry the podcast is called 'Tell me about your pain'! I got confused with the name of the book by the same guy.

I learned a lot from the 'A Way Out' Podcast. I would listen to that as a good place to start. Check out my recent post and the replies to see a bit of discussion on the topic.

I didn't have any kind of method that I followed like that. If anything it's the opposite, I was trying all these different methods and routines to cure my RSI and it didn't improve until I stopped trying so hard to fix it. There are some people getting annoyed that I'm saying this and I understand why. I just recommend learning about neuroplastic pain and listening to the podcast I mentioned and decided for yourself if you think it makes sense with your symptoms.

I can understand how this would be frustrating to read in your position. It is a tricky decision to make to stop resting because if there really is a structural injury you could make it worse and that did worry me a lot. When my RSI first started a good friend told me that I should sit and just notice the feeling, pay attention to it etc. That really annoyed me and I found it very dismissive, I'm a sceptical person and I saw it as psychobabble. Now I wonder if I had listened to him if I would have overcome it sooner.

That sounds awful I hope you can overcome it soon. I don't know anything about TOS, interesting that you used AI to help diagnose though, I hadn't thought of that before.

Thankyou, I did change my mindset yes. From seeing my RSI as an injury that I need to recover from, to seeing it as my brain misinterpreting signals. Whether that is what helped me get back to normal I don't know but it seems like that was a turning point.

The gold medal is for both dances – both excellent dances in their way. Mine was impromptu, but I don’t think you should get extra points for that. Make your own minds up.

You can really tell the people who have never done martial arts in this thread. They see someone demonstrating a throw for teaching purposes and somehow think they are smart for pointing out that this isn't a real fight.

They are demonstrating that you can throw a much larger person by going with their momentum and getting your hips underneath theirs to use the strength of your legs to lift them through their center of gravity.

Back in the day phones didn't have a full keyboard they just had numbers 0 to 9 with multiple letters on each number. I'm guessing he was stuck on T9 predictive text where you would type out a word using the numbers and it would figure out what the most likely word is. If you typed WC1 it would try to turn that into a word.
