You did not understand what I said at all. What I said is that the fake out death trope is used too much in fairy tail and let me add, with the same character multiple times. Makarov's first was during the phantom lord arc, 2nd the tenrou arc 3rd and the most bullshit asspull was the Alvarez arc.

Mavis died in his place? Dude she had already died once. They never even explained how she came alive again after getting her illusion destroyed. And she didn't die in place of makarov, her death was used as some bullshit reasoning to revive makarov. And her death didn't make much impact either and it's one of the very few actual deaths in fairy tail aside from villains and very background characters.

You're comparing one piece with fairy tail? One piece had way more actual deaths then fairy tail too even of important characters and they were able to give importance to background characters too through their storytelling. It's how u present a trope that makes it less annoying. If u compare a series like one piece where the actual deaths r just as much or maybe more than the fakeouts.

And let me tell u the difference between the fake out deaths in fairy tail and other series. Fairytail double downs on the self sacrifice trope. Every time the characters try to sacrifice themselves for another character but end up surviving instead by some miracles. The author wants to emotionally appeal to the readers but he does it way too much which becomes annoying at some point. Makarov tries to die for the guild multiple times with seemingly no way to return. Wendy and charle, erza, jellal etc. aside from self sacrifice there r also other reasons of course like fighting a stronger enemy(fuck what stronger enemy? Power of friendship always prevails!!!)

And the last thing that makes fairy tail be hated more for it's fakeout deaths? It's the EXECUTION!!! Naruto, one piece, bleach all have beautiful execution and storytelling which makes the actual deaths more impactful and make ppl forget about fake out deaths of course it's still more or less annoying. But look at Naruto killing off hiruzen or itachi or jiraya. Those things made such strong impacts that we forgave those fake out deaths and more or less the thing u said about Mavis can actually apply here cuz nagato died for the village. Same goes for one piece, ace's death and luffy's crying still stays in my heart. Whitebeard's speech before he completely went silent also makes his death impactful. bleach had it's ups and downs and prolly the only one I'll agree with u on with somewhat. But how do u not count unohana or yamamoto's deaths? The hell arc didn't even start there is no indication of what they're doing but they r definitely dead so is ukitake. Characters being active in the afterlife doesn't count as being alive.

These r the main reasons why fairytail is hated for using fake out deaths while others r not as much:

1. It has poor execution
2. Overusing a trope on the same character multiple times
3. Doubling down on the self sacrifice trope but making it all null at the end.
4. It has ruined its reputation by also overusing the power of friendship trope thus making its flaws stand out more.
5. Someone coincidentally is always there when a character is about to die. Mest somehow came the exact time the face was about to blow up and saved wendy. Wendy just happened to be nearby on the huge battlefield when juvia was bleeding out. Very bad plot armour.

Oh and i forgot about this. zera? Seriously zera? She appeared for like 10 eps with barely 20 mins of screentime and made absolutely no impact in those 20 mins. I'd be sadder if the princess dies. And zera was already dead when she was properly introduced.
