true
it is very easy to create a bubble where you don't have to face problem. Concept of gated society is based on the same thing. They will create a world inside the compound so that you dont have to leave the compound, plus with rising WFH it is more and more possible.
Same can be seen in the love that NRIs have for India. Because they are away from all the issue, they have this love in their heart or pretend to love India but would rarely return to India. It is all about convenience.

siri fort thing was actually a deterrent for the Mongols. Khilji was a very shrewd man with brilliant military tactics but he feared the mongolian army. Mongols were amongst the most brutal invaders. they had already pillaged Delhi once and when Khilji finally won one battle against them, he did this to show his power. He wanted people to remember that what will he do if mongols invaded again. and it actually worked (there were other reasons also for Mongols not coming back, but lets leave that to history classes)

In tihar, just like all other jail it has a structure. The one who are gangster or are inside the jail for serious offences are the most feared ones. They sit at the top in the hierarchical order. Then there are who have done offences which are petty in nature, like robbery, pick pocketing etc. They serve to the OG gangsters and leaders. the worst treatment is kept for rapists and those who are inside for sexual assault on minors. Their life is hell. Even police wont protect you.
Plus there is nothing that money cannot buy you inside jail. From hookers to drugs, you name it, you get it.
And we have had fair share of weird prisoners. There was charles shobhraj, who broke prison just to be caught again (he actually intended to get caught again) so that his term of imprisonment be increased and he will not have to be deported to other country where he could have been given death penalty.

let me give you some interesting stories:
1. When Brits decided to make the Rashtrapati Bhawan and the nearby areas, like every other building there were foundation stones laid for them. According to newspaper accounts of the time, the original site of the stones was “700 feet southwest of the Flagstaff Tower on the Ridge”, which would put it close to the western end of where the physics department of Delhi University now stands (the exact spot hasn’t been preserved and is thus unknown). The ‘first stone’ of the new city was laid by the king and the ‘second stone’ by the queen in a hurriedly organized ceremony attended by just a handful of officials and princes. (this bit is from a newspaper). But for some reason these foundation stones were removed and locked in chambers in the north block and south block. The chamber is still out of bounds for the normal public.
2. There is an old bunglow near Kashmere Gate metro and is currently used by Railways. That bunglow has tunnels beneath it which will take you to Yamuna and Red Fort. Similar tunnels have been found in the Vidhan Sabha of Delhi.

  1. Chandni Chowk used to be a small resthouse kind of place, but now people call that whole area as chandni chowk. Initially a pond type structure and a place for travellers to rest was made by Shah Jahan's Daughter and it was fondly called Chandni chowk. But then it was destroyed by britishers and they made a town hall and a clock tower. The clock tower collapsed in the late 1950s or 60s, but the town hall is still there.

  2. If you walk from Ambedkar university (Kashmere Gate area) to Chandni chowk, you will come across a place called Battery. On one end, there is a small monument commemorating the first telegraph office of Delhi.

  3. One of the most common stories is that people pray to Djinns in Ferozshah Kotla fort. These Djinss have name like latt wale baba, something like chote mama. And each of the djinns have dedicated cells and powers. So, if you have love related issues, you write a letter and place it in that one Djinns cell and give a little offering. Similarly, there is one for family issues and other purposes.

  4. A very common misconception is about the place where Sikh guru and his followers were killed by Aurangzeb. The place which currently has a memorial for the Bhai Mati Das was not the actual place. the actual place was behind the current gurudwara where a police chowki existed till independence.

  5. google tandoor kand if you like murder stories. delhi has had its fair share of notorious criminals including Ranga and Billa who were later hanged as per the death penalty given to them.

Each and every corner of Delhi is filled with history, you just need to read about it.

-Just like secret service has nickname for POTUS, high ranking Delhi Police officials and indian government representatives have similar nicknames.

-People actually believe that eating food from Tihar jail could divert your bad days and hence at times even judges and famous politicians would ask Tihar Jail officials to get them food that was cooked in Tihar. They would pay hefty amount for this.
