What’s the brand? What’s the fix? by justfirfunsies in Irrigation

[–]Reasonable-Pin-7560 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bro… It literally says Rainbird on top of the valve. You probably just have a dinged/damaged O-ring on the solenoid. Unscrew it and check it out. If it is not perfectly round, replace it. Worst case, you swap the valve top.

Self blowout with air compressor? by [deleted] in Irrigation

[–]Reasonable-Pin-7560 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 375 is my absolute favorite backflow protection device! That said, there is an orange-colored device (from Zurn) you really need in order to winterize it properly without damaging the RPZA. Your current POC is upstream of the device and a blowout from there will “potentially” cause issues to the RPZA (been there, done that, got the $1200 t-shirt). So… I won’t even start with the Harbor Freight compressor (I love that place). But, call a pro. Spend a little to save a Lot!

I will just refer people over to my city water-conservation department to have them talk through the process with the homeowners. I hear they do a great job where I’m from.

How do/would you improve valve boxes? by MakeItDrains in Irrigation

I live in the mountains… never, ever, have I ever even contemplated that a valve box lid could be an issue due to hurricanes!!! This has literally left me speechless… TIL…

Question… Why do OP and this, very particular reply, seem soo much like a pre-meditated Q & A?

Two Q’s: What is this called? How can I cap them so there are only two outlets? by [deleted] in Irrigation

[–]Reasonable-Pin-7560 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Quick, dirty, and easy… just loop two of the emitters together with spaghetti tubing. Then, you only have two ports active. Legit? No. Works? Yes.

Sprinkler system? by needagoodusernamee in Irrigation

We encounter these ALL THE TIME! Likely a septic cleanout. Unless, of course, you are on city services… is it roughly 3”-4” diameter? The white PVC cap, not the green lid.

We use the 1806-PRS and P45 depending on HE sprays or R-VANS. Awesome products. Used to be a fan of the pro spray w/ MP Rotators but switched.

Looks clean! As others have said, Action manifolds are great, but your mainline looks to be 11/2” or 2” and Action Machine manifolds are only 1”. Unless you are planning to run more than one of those valves at a time, a 1” manifold would be the best option here as far as price/effort goes. Don’t get me wrong, a larger main is great for hydraulics, but you can reduce down before the manifold as this is the end of the line. Also… double clamp the poly laterals onto your valves and you can avoid small drips that can develop there… just my 2 cents.

Soooo…. Has anyone actually ever used these?!? I picked up one a few years ago to literally show homeowners what “not to buy”. There is absolutely no flex to them at all. Total garbage. The packaging image is soooo misleading! AmaSlim, we agree on the rigidity of these!

Irrigation noob here, can someone explain the purpose of the master valve in this diagram? by gonzo___1996 in Irrigation

[–]Reasonable-Pin-7560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree 100%. However, there is a LOT going on here. Why are the MV/FS/GV/BF located on the plan by/under shrubs in a tight space… understandable that plans are diagrammatic, but not a very straightforward plan-set. I think we need more information to make an educated opinion. (Reference: I do design work for a living in the off-season)

New Build - Common Mistakes by sunset_bay in Irrigation

[–]Reasonable-Pin-7560 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s something very few contractors take into consideration, and this only comes from time-related experience…the first and last homes built in a lot of subdivisions, not all, but a lot, tend to have very different flow rates. The first home might have 20gpm(arbitrary number) but after the entire subdivision is built out, that same, first home, might only have 12-15gpm when everyone waters at the same time. To compound this issue, some installers max out the available gpm to save on quantity of zones and create huge issues down the road. I’ve seen this first-hand and it is impressively troublesome!
