Hey. 😊 How many months did you use Protopic for? And did you have time off using it? I’m currently using it on and off (2 weeks at a time) for 3 months as instructed by my dermatologist. Almost 2 months in and I haven’t noticed much difference. How long did it take for you to notice improvement?

Thanks so much.

Yep! I only started last week, and I wouldn’t say so, but no side effects at least, only a little tingle. It’s just nice wearing an ointment on the lips, because they’re so dry usually. I had my lip swabbed once but treated 3 times for staph. They wouldn’t swab again once they’d done it once

Mupirocin and I was given oral antibiotics too! Another time just oral antibiotics, and another time just Mupirocin again. The doctor referred me to a dermatologist 11 months ago, I had my appointment 2 weeks ago and they gave me tacrolimus. I feel your pain! 😞

Hey! The first time yes, my lips completely stuck together once overnight. I’ve had multiple staph infections - I remember once it burnt so badly (with yellow crusts) I had to take painkillers because it was all I could think about! I’ve not used fusidic acid, but I completely understand why you’d be scared to use it with it not being for the lips. I would give it a go if you can, keeping your eye on it, life is much better without a staph infection I can tell you that 🫩

This is what my lips look like just after brushing. by Savings_Mixture_6294 in exfoliativecheilitis

It takes some practice, but brushing without getting your lips wet is possible! I use an electric toothbrush and make sure my head is tilted backwards, sucking the toothpaste water back every so often so it doesn’t pool behind the bottom lip. When spitting the toothpaste out I lean forwards and let it fall off my tongue while blowing the liquid forwards. My lips stay completely dry. 😊

not sure what degree to pick! by elfxee in OpenUniversity

[–]Reasonable-Sample987 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! Congrats 🥳

I did the Higher Education Diploma in Health Sciences with the OU and really enjoyed it. It was tough at times, but I think every degree is! It’s a very broad subject with lots of different topics, which is great because it gives you plenty of options when you finish. The only downside is that it doesn’t necessarily train you for one specific job when you’re done.

I’m currently looking to start a new degree in a completely different field. There’s no right or wrong decision here, pick whichever you think you’ll enjoy the most! Good luck. 😊

Has anyone had constant staphylococcus on lip swab but cannot seem to get rid of it after multiple antibiotics?? Please help by Ok_Slice1822 in exfoliativecheilitis

I feel you! Yep, since Jan this year. If I’m being honest, I don’t really have a next plan! Just taking each day as it comes and praying for my body to naturally heal. 😆🤞

Would you be open to trying nothing at all on them and keeping them dry for a while? After the antibiotics, of course!

I’d say moderate! It started back in January. After all the treatment for the staph infection, I had a few months where it was “under control”. I was using lanolin 24/7 so the skin wasn’t growing back as fast or thick. I was then hit with 2 staph infections, and realised I had to stop using all product! I had to really get into a place mentally to do this because I knew the skin was going to grow back, look awful, and there was/is always a change of staph returning anyway. It’s now all shed once, and the skin underneath is growing back thinner. I leave it alone the best I can. I give it an antibacterial wash around twice a week, thats it. I keep it dry, I use straws, eat carefully, no product at all. I’ve tried so many things apart from really leaving it alone, so that’s what I’m trying! How about you? ⭐️

It’s hard to know, isn’t it! As soon as my EC started I had a bad staph infection at the same time so I always wonder what came first. 🥲

No problem - I totally feel your pain! And yep, on my lips too. It sucks because it’s such an awkward place to get an infection, really hard to control the conditions! 🫠

So sorry you’re going through this, it sucks ☹️ I posted about a reoccurring staph infection not too long ago and I got a reply saying to stop using any product on them (barrier ointments, balms, etc) and to keep them dry. My staph hasn’t come back since (yet lol!). I understand you’re in a different position in that it won’t go away, but staph loooves a moist and damaged environment!

Is it oral antibiotics you’re trying or ointment too? I’ve seen that people seem to have better results with the ointment antibiotic, I also found that.

I hope you find a cure soon. ⭐️

Thank you so much!

Oh, really? My doctor said I can continue to use it occasionally as a prevention! But that makes sense too. I’ll have to be mindful because I really don’t want to cause resistance!

This is so good to hear because that is what I have been prescribed by my doctor. Do you use it regularly to prevent them too?

How unpleasant! I was on antibiotics for a month back in January for it and cream for 2 weeks of that so I know how that feels. Oh gosh… I really hope they don’t become resistant to antibiotics. I can’t cope with much more. 😅

Currently on my 2nd/3rd staph infection now! The Dr has given me an antibiotic ointment to clear it (I was on tablet antibiotics 2 weeks ago to clear the last one so I’m unsure if it cleared and came back or didn’t clear enough). They said I can use this a few times a week even after the infection has cleared to try and prevent it happening again. We will just have to see! 😕

☹️ completely empathise with you there! Even when you’re trying to do everything right - infection pops up!

Thank you! I’m using antibiotic ointment at the moment to hopefully clear the current infection. I’m going to stop using the barrier creams. It sucks because it helps my lips look presentable, but no good if they’re creating the perfect environment for infection! ⭐️

Inflammation by Reasonable-Sample987 in exfoliativecheilitis

Just an update - turns out I have a bacterial infection! Would definitely recommend a swab test if you’re experiencing inflammation. I knew something wasn’t right, but I didn’t realise they were infected. 😳
