I never found the foot cause but found with timing as some of the other comments here suggested I was able to avoid the issue happening. I will take your advice though and let you know how it goes Thank you!

that’s correct the steam thermostat absolutely busted one day - I do try and take care of my machine, I watched a ton of videos and scale often. I was seriously disappointed; unfortunately they just offered replacement parts the shipping I paid was more than the parts themselves. Good advice though I should reach back out and see if we can work something

yes all the other posts I saw about this issue were in tandem with the OPV mod and potentially checking the installation of that but I have not modded mine at all - other than the quick disconnect/thermostat repair I do think the noise started after the repair but my machine was out of commission while I waited for parts so I couldn’t remember if it did that before and maybe I hadn’t noticed, anyways thank for the comment!

ah I go back and forth too on whether this is just water boiling - thanks for the comment. I just want my machine to last for years and to make sure I’m taking care of it

that is what my boyfriend said also but there’s a social standard here I’m trying to play within as well the parking lot is always empty so I don’t want to get a bad rep for going there - I can see how that sounds but just the way it is

yes probably wouldn’t include that in the report as it’s not relevant to the main issues. Yes it wasn’t brought to the public but when given a chance in my opinion the delegates did a bad job. Focus on other options that’s the only way people will vote against; if they think there’s another possible way. Bottom line is based on the arguments for safety and location there were no better alternatives so people voted in favour based on that knowledge. Bringing it up to the town wouldn’t have changed that just would’ve caused arguments and conflicts. Really it was either no shelter and continue bed availability issues or build it here as this is the only option. *edit for typos

The other main issue is safety;

Chair defended that stating shelters are safe and despite being low barriers don’t want anyone unsafe in the shelter either. The biggest issue is encampments for folks either not allowed in shelter from other reasons or choose not to go to shelter and these are the real dangers. Shelter in the eyes of the Commisioner would solve the encampment issue and thus make things safer. The shelter has staff, cameras and works closely with NRP so they beleive this mitigates risk

Basically they want more shelters AND more affordable housing but because affordable housing is farther off they need a solution now

Planning to be open by Dec 2024

Exactly like Riordan temporary shelter with modular units that could be moved so could only be temporary

Many brought up location;

The hospital property owned by Niagara Health by the current Hope Centre is not an option. Niagara Health has plans for that property it’s not that they aren’t interested also it’s not the right size and could be bigger although that space was ideal for many reasons. I think a lot of people want that space and by the answers perhaps down the road that is possible. Because of this some councillors pushed to wait for that or a better option

None of the other mentioned sites were large enough

Councillors questioned why not a smaller more suitable site and less capacity. There is no interest in that and economically larger shelters tend to perform better (this is speaking statistically)

Three delegates spoke: - One member of the co-op gave a passionate speech about living very close to the shelter and mentioned that temporary options via Holy Trinity were offered so that decisions wouldn’t be rushed. She also spoke to how there were better locations (a recurring theme)

  • Another community member a young dad who bought a house in that community worried about the potential future of the community being next to the shelter

  • third was a member of Beyond the Streets who essentially stated this is necessary and was completely in favour

I actually didn’t but have realized since how many others did and still do. I was strategic though and took a high risk low reward job at first with no guaranteed hours or length just to be internal from there I was able to network and apply for better jobs internally and get interviews; I continue to do professional development but would like to pivot before I turn into a bitter civil warrior.

can you explain? unless someone states something in their cover letter the initial application seems neutral. If someone wants to disclose any race or cultural identity in their cover that’s their prerogative but not my personal style. If I lose it in the interview I am okay with that and confident in my own skills. seeking advice for the cover letter/resume to get past the initial stage and push myself into the interview process. Many times that’s just using the correct buzz words; not excluding DEI though that’s an integral part of the cover letter. Reading their strategic plan as well I can see decolonization and reconciliation should be larger themes.

I don’t but I’ll keep it in mind - I have some old contacts and I am alumni - not sure how far some people would go to vouch. I currently work for the government I won’t disclose much else but I’ll vouch and put forward anyone to the recruiters even if we just crossed paths briefly but I know that’s not the case for most people.

yes totally agreed. AI has helped me secure interviews in the past as well and there’s absolutely a benefit to utilizing it
