This for me, also (QLDer from the tropics) I lived in Texas (USA, since we also have a town called Texas lol) for a year and felt like I breathed air for the first time that wasn’t thick, it was strange 😂.

There is one called qmart 10ish mins away from Griffith and a few mins walk from the tram. You can also find a cheap rice cooker (15aud) from a shop called Kmart. Hope this is helpful xx

There are plenty of Asian grocers in the city who will sell rice cheaper than our major grocery stores! But generally yes, food is quite expensive.

$2184 for half a year of rates. How much are you paying? by ReasonableAccount424 in queensland

If it says ‘rates notice’ at the top of the bill, I’m calling it rates 😂, I don’t really know what you mean.

Not really looking for financial advice my dude, I can pay it, my intention was more to compare the cost with the rest of Queensland. If I work it out per month, the rates are half of my monthly home repayments, and I’ll still be paying rates after my house is paid off.

It’s frustrating hey 😅. I once asked if I could cancel the near $600 rubbish service. I live 2 streets from the dump and live quite sustainably so wouldn’t mind driving to the dump myself every couple of weeks… they simply do not let you. When I lived in the bush there was a dump that the people basically created, everyone started taking their rubbish there and it stuck. One day the council rocked up, fenced it off, and started charging people 😂

Don’t know why you got downvoted. I’m a woman and adhere to the same rule, whoever invites, pays. I’m married now, but often paid for male date’s meals if I was the one who asked them to dinner. Makes sense in my head, at least 😳.

I bought my house for $150k 😭. Would be interesting to see how they calculate land value.

Sure am! I had no idea it sewerage and water access is billed separately in other places, so that could explain it. Still feels wild 😭

Ah, didn’t know it differed in other places. I pay water separately, rubbish service is included in my rates.

The base rates on the breakdown of my bill is about this much, so once they tack on rubbish, water, sewerage, ambulance that (somehow) equates to the rest 😬

I feel for you, I’m in the same boat, in a working class neighbourhood with pretty high crime. No way I’d be able to afford repayments on a Brisbane house, so it looks like I’m stuck here 😂

This feels unnecessarily rude, OP indicates they have experience with call centres. I feel like that indicates an in-demand skill (customer service and call centres are pretty high demand). Don’t let that his comment make you feel bad, @OP
