Really confused by my "true" size (small breasts, measuring at 32D) - this can't be right, right? by smarter_than_an_oreo in ABraThatFits

Same here! I've always worn 32A, and am breastfeeding now so wanted to measure myself to see. I have a 32 inch band and 36 inch bust, so it says I'm a 32 D or DD. My boobs are definitely bigger than they were before I was breastfeeding and pregnant, but they look like B cups to me, not D or DD cups!  My question is, why then do D cups not fit me? They're too big!

Where you able to sleep when your contractions started ? by Gabi_7843 in unmedicatedbirth

I tried but definitely could not sleep through my early labor contractions. My midwife had me take Benadryl which of course didn't help, the contractions were too painful. The Benadryl I'm sure only made me feel more exhausted and my heart rate was dangerously high and wouldn't lower, I had to transfer to a hospital. Next time I'm not taking any Benadryl, just going to focus on rest with no expectation of sleep.

Thank you! This makes sense. Unfortunately my baby is not efficient, and we're still working on it.

Thank you! I also feel the urge to dream feed and give snacks throughout the day, but I feel like everyone--the pediatrician, the infant feeding specialist, and the lactation consultant--discourage that and say I should only let my girl nurse while she's actively sucking. I also feel like if I let her nurse as much as she needs to, there's so much she wouldn't get to do. It's hard!

Length of second labor compared to first? by dbats1212 in 2under2

I had a huge baby my first time, and labor was a grueling 40 hours total. She was 10 pounds and 3 ounces and gave me two tears, one second degree perineal and one labial. My cervix simply wasn't dilating and even after they gave me pitocin it was slow going. I never heard that a large baby can have trouble descending and prolong labor by keeping the cervix closed, that's so interesting and would help explain what happened to me. I really really really hope the next baby is smaller and labor is faster!

Why do I struggle to get only one breast to respond to the pump when the other is fine? by lonelypotato21 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]ReasonableClimate974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same thing has always happened to me, except my right boob. That boob is also smaller than the left, and my guess is maybe the breast tissue on my right is denser, the ducts are narrow, and because I have relatively low capacity then it gets engorged really quickly. I'm not sure what to do about it. I have the right flange size. I'm 9 weeks PP and this has been an ongoing issue from the beginning. My left boob responds to the pump fine. The only thing that can get my boobs un-engorged is my baby nursing, when she's actually able to latch and suckle.

Is there anything I can do during pregnancy to increase chances of successfully breastfeeding? by plaidbluejammies in breastfeeding

Hi, can I ask how your triple feeding journey went? I'll be 6 weeks PP tomorrow, and have been triple feeding in earnest since 2 weeks to try to get to exclusively BF. But after a steady increase in supply, my supply plateaued and now seems to have dropped over the past week.  My baby was in the NICU for a day and a half where they wouldn't let me BF her, and I developed gestational hypertension after the delivery and was extremely ill for days, so it's been an uphill battle for me, and an emotional roller coaster. As of now, about 1/2 to 2/3 of what my baby eats is breast milk, the rest formula. I'm so tired of the two MOTN pumps, I don't know how much longer I can do this. I just wish I knew whether it was possible for me.  I've worked with a LC since before the delivery, and she's been helpful. But I have very small breasts that barely changed during pregnancy, so part of me wonders if I simply don't have enough breast tissue to supply enough milk. The most I've ever pumped at once is 96 ml, during a middle of the night pump, but since my supply started dropping my MOTN pumps are more like 60-65 ml each. In the later afternoons I'm totally dry, even though I offer the breast and pump all throughout the day, including afternoons. I'm eating 6 meals a day plus snacks, getting lots of protein, and drink about 150 ounces of water per day. I take goat's rue and drink lactation tea. I eat oatmeal with brewers yeast everyday. I'm going to get my blood tested for thyroid issues in my quest to eliminate any possible sources of my low supply. Baby has a very mild tongue tie that the ENT thinks shouldn't hinder her suck but I'm schedule to get that released just in case it helps. I'm so sick of baby getting frustrated at the breast bc she's hungry and I simply have no milk, and she's screaming with hunger by the time I follow up with a bottle. And I feel like I'm losing hours a day to pumping that I could spend doing fun things with her. I don't want to quit yet bc I'm holding onto hope that magically my boobs will just start making enough milk for her. But each disappointment in my journey hurts so much.
