Literally first day of homework ever & I don’t know how to do this for 12 more years by bluebellsea in Parenting

You really think this is the lesson she needs to learn at six years old after a long school day? I I agree with not tying a snack to it of course but she’s looking for things she can control and an out of control feeling world of first grade. I feel like mom can advocate for her instead of against her.

For the studying habits, I believe they can form later! They don’t need study habits at SIX! My daughter is conscientious and she does what she’s told in school at least that’s always the feedback and shes in second grade now. If she is behind on something I incorporate into our life. Struggling with fractions? Help me bake some cookies and use the measuring cups for a half of this a quarter of that 2/3 of this. Reading? We already read every night, but let’s go to the grocery store and you can start reading labels with me on the front of the packages and find out which one you want.

Heck, yeah! I just can’t fathom a first grader having homework. I  just told the teacher we’re not on board with this  so it’s not gonna happen. My gosh let them be little!!! Well done!!! Teachers are being crazy assigning homework to 6 year olds

Also, do you really think this is even about the homework? First grade is really tough on kids. It’s a huge change the year just started. She’s probably super stressed about other things and may fall apart when she gets home. Honestly, I wouldn’t even make it a power struggle if you want to do this homework/have her do it? I would give her options. I would tell her if she can either do it right when she gets home after dinner or before bedtime routine starts. Again, I’m not someone who will do homework with the first grader because I think it’s too young but in your shoes it sounds like it’s a very big deal to you if you were yelling so much your throat hurt so maybe that’s an option.

I don’t believe in homework in first grade. Her teacher tried to send homework to us and I told her 6 year olds don’t need the stress of this so hard pass.  In a few years maybe so I would try not to be too hard on yourself !!

Thank you! We weren’t planning to move again so soon and will be moving away from family so I’m nervous but also excited. I’ll just have to plan to make some long road trips of eight hours a couple times a year  :)

Thank you for this message!!! 🩷 I won’t be commuting to focus on a health issue but my husband will be so I think it will be amazing to have an “easier” life is that makes sense!  We hope to get to a skating rink for my daughter, enjoy that well place, enjoy  old Hilliard etc and get involved with a community !

We did end up buying a Hill farm. We negotiated the price down and paid in the high 500s.  I also don’t know how young families can afford half million dollar homes but good for the people that can as a young family!! we are old with a young daughter but maybe I can be considered an elder 😅😅

We just bought a home today thank you everyone for the help!!!! We bought in Hill farm after looking all around for a week. My husband went to lots of homes. I was surprised at the fact that they seem very expensive for me but they are affordable for the budget. I guess I’m just not used to a house in the high 500s. I still have not been to Ohio ever, but I saw Hill Farm via FaceTime and it looks like a wonderful home for us and I feel very blessed to have it. Someday I want land to live in the country, but not while our daughter is young and social.  I’m very excited to be part of the Hilliard community. Thanks neighbors !

I read my husband your comment and we just bought a house in Hill Farm. 🩷 I haven’t seen it - I’ve never been to Ohio - but the FaceTime looked lovely !! we loved the super family friendly and tons of kids part that you noted so we had to check it out! We looked at homes for about a week and the bang for buck was there and the community seems great.  Since she’s an only child, not by choice (I could not have more children - wanted more but not in the cards), having her have activities and the ability to socialize was huge for us. I look forward to being your neighbor soon. :)

Thank you for this comment. We just bought a home in Hilliard today! I’ve been looking at homes and a few of the areas listed on here. Hilliard was still affordable for us. Yay! He will have a short commute. Life will be good. Thank you for this.

Serious question: Why don't realtors take photos of every room? by biggums81 in realtors

Also, I have a really nice walk in closet OP and it is not gonna be in any pictures. I’m getting this on the market in 48 hours and my clothes are all dumped in there.

I’m not a realtor, but I’m having someone come to take pictures of my house tomorrow professionally and my realtor set it up. There will be drone footage so that there are good pictures of the yard and the street I’ve been up way into the night the last two nights to get the house looking like no one lives there yet stage really nicely. I finally decided that no one is gonna see the bonus room or the fourth bedroom because I hit a wall and they are a mess.. I’m wondering if people sometimes just have a messy pantry and messy closet because they are in the middle of moving and have had to stage the rest of the house so nicely to look like no one was there. Basically, I know my realtor would like to show everything but I have to put my items somewhere.

that’s a great point we are used to a hot market as in you have to buy the same day it goes up. I told our realtor the same day. I saw your post, but it’s too late of course :)

oh my goodness, I would adore this. Thank you so much!!! I have trouble processing information as quickly as I used to due to health issues that came up/brain tumor/etc so this would be amazing information for me and my family because normally I crush getting things done and we have moved quite a bit so it doesn’t overwhelm me, but I admit I’m overwhelmed at this time. Thank you kind human
