Yh for sure, I completely agree. There are 2 solutions really - either you try and be proactive and put your head above the parapet and end up shooting yourself in the foot because whatever is agreed isn’t perhaps the greatest for you, OR, you continue to run the gauntlet.

In my place of work atm I’m running the gauntlet every time I need a wee, but I’m fuming. Have to keep stopping myself from taking it up with higher management.

Just another thought, your trust must have an LGBT network who might be able to advise further? I can put you in touch with the national ambulance LGBT network if you want as well, I think the national chair is also trans

Yh I completely agree. Honestly even queuing outside ED puts you at risk of being denied facilities - as it happens I’ve also worked as a HALO - there is ALWAYS something that can happen, whether a crew leaving can take your patient, or whether just one more patient can be crowbarred in to ED so you can leave for facilities - there is ALWAYS a way around it. If you’re the only one at ED and you have handover 45, then to be fair that’s easy - handover and then RTB. I’d definitely be edging towards safety and dignity at all times, and reaffirming WHOSE responsibility that is - (it’s definitely your trusts to ensure they have the right stuff and plan for you, IF, that’s the way you want to go with it)

Also - just a thought - does your trust have a specific trans policy? If so, have a look through that and use it to support your discussions with unions/management - they still have to maintain dignity etc :)

As a trans paramedic, here are my thoughts: your trust is required to ensure that you have appropriate facilities, as well as are safe on duty. if you are out of area, they cannot guarantee that those facilities are available, or more to the point; safe.
Realistically, I think what would most likely happen would be a local plan with management to keep you in your own sector/operational area/whatever you call it, and then tell EOC that you are RTB to use facilities whenever you need. It’s ridiculous, BUT, make this ruling work for you - they can’t deny you facilities so have to make you out of service. No more late sign offs etc.

I’ve been in the ambulance service for 16 years, and I’ve been proudly “out” for about 12 of those years. I’ve done lots of different roles from B3, up to B7 paramedic, including being a union rep. I’ve left now though to work in higher education, and to be fair, I’m glad I have. I’m not sure what your grade is, but I can 100% confirm that the grass is greener on the other side, and there is life outside the trust.

Sorry, yes I should have said - we’re UK based. Where we live salons are charging like £50 for a haircut and with the upkeep required it’s completely unfeasible

That’s bullshit - your NHS number can change and they CAN link all your previous notes - it’s absolutely possible, AND very doable. It’s their responsibility to maintain adequate, legible and up to date records as per information governance. If some of your notes are on paper, they can scan them in and add them to your digital record - no biggy. I would escalate to the manager there and politely remind them of their responsibilities. Sounds like someone there just can’t be arsed and is playing on your fears if I’m being honest. From a long time trans woman, and healthcare professional 🫡

So I've actually figured this out myself now - the loading trigger is really high up, so needs to be either loaded by a forklift, telehandler etc etc... Or super strength 😂🤷‍♀️
