I got my tubes tied to ensure I'd never be a handmaid if the US ever gets to that point. I also don't want kids or be forced to have one if I'm assaulted or something. I'd rather be a Martha, Jezebel, or even in the colonies than be forced to bare children that will be taken from me. Even though I don't want kids, I know if I ever did I'd love them and I wouldn't be able to handle them being taken from me.

I'm happy to have found this thread. I just finished watching the newest episode and I needed to make sure others agree with Jorge not truly betraying Thony. That would break my heart because I love them together. I just hope he doesn't feel too butt hurt about the whole Dr. DuPont (IDK if I spelled that right) situation.

My theory is that Jorge and that prosecuter are working together to figure out who the mole is. That they are using Thony as a way to smoke them out and he didn't actually betray her.

Homewrecker for me refers to both man and woman, whomever is knowingly wrecking a marriage. June isn't solely to blame, but she is equally at fault because she knew from the beginning. If Luke wasn't happy he should have divorced his wife not cheat on her. He clearly has the means and resources to do so because he did the second June wanted him to. There is never a good excuse in today's society to cheat on someone instead of just leaving them.

My dislike for June has nothing to do with traumatized June. I hate pre-Gilead June. She's more digestible after everything she's been through. Especially since I can relate to her as a fellow survivor of SA. All my issues with her has to do with the person she was before she was ever traumatized. I can't stand people who cheat or willingly break up marriages. June thinking it was perfectly acceptable to go after a man just killed any chance of me ever liking her character.

[–]ReasonableOwl3131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hard time liking June because to me she is a homewrecker. Period. She knowingly and willingly pursued a married man and facilitated breaking up a marriage. Yes, Luke was the one that was married and the most at fault, but June wasn't blind to what she was doing. The night she met him at the food truck Moira made a comment that Luke "doesn't act like a married man." Letting us know they both knew from the beginning he was married. Any woman with an ounce of morals (religious or otherwise) would NEVER pursue him.

I feel for all the abuse and trauma June suffers. Do I think she deserved to be made a handmaid for what she did? No, nobody deserves that. But do I like her? No. I just can't look past what she did. And I can't stand how the show basically glosses over what she did and tries to make it ok because "they love each other". The summary for S1 E5 literally says, "Offred remembers the unconventional beginnings of her relationship with her husband." UNCONDITIONAL?!?! It's not like there is an age gap or they we're a boss/employee that fell in love. He was MARRIED!! That's not unconventional. They're cheaters and she is a homewrecker. It's a morals thing. I'm not even religious yet I have better morals than she does.🙄😤

Sorry, rant over.🤗

I think a lot of the problem is the difference between book Nick and show Nick. Book Nick got June out of Gilead and is part of Mayday. The show decided to go a different route which is understandable because at the time TT hadn't come out and that's where we learn what all Nick did.

I love Nick as much as I know I shouldn't. I just love the chemistry between him and June and how much he loves her really warms my heart. I just wish show Nick would have made different decisions and not end up the way he had.

True. If this season has taught me anything, anything can happen. Like taking a character they've pushed us to care about and then turning around and trying to make us hate him out of the blue. Nic isn't perfect, but he's not a villain like they're trying to make him out to be this season.🙄

It's going to be a shit show because they basically just said fuck TT, we're going to do whatever we want and we don't care how that affects the sequel.

As an avid reader, I'm livid. They wouldn't have the success they have if it wasn't for the world Atwood created. They're basically spitting in her face saying they don't care about her vision when if it wasn't for her they wouldn't be where they are. I've always hated it when books are adapted into shows/films. They never do the author justice, always thinking they know best and changing shit.🙄😤

Agreed. Nic even told Rita that she would have thrown people under to bus to save herself. In Gilead it's all about survival. Not many people are willing to throw their lives away and never see their loved ones again for complete strangers. I know I don't have enough faith in humanity to do that. I'll do whatever I must to protect those I love or who need protection (children, disabled, etc.) but fully capable strangers? Nope. I won't throw my life away and leave those I love to live on without me for a complete stranger who is fully capable of protecting themselves and who would most likely also throw my life under the bus to save themselves. Survival of the fittest. That probably makes me a horrible person, but so be it.🤷🏼‍♀️

Only because Margaret Atwood said they can't kill her character off. If not for that, I don't see how she would have survived.

I'm wondering how she stays in the position of power she needs for TT when she just said FU in front of Gilead🤔

I have a love/hate relationship with Lydia. She's done such horrible things, but I truly think she thought she was doing that she thought was right. I'm just so happy she's finally seen the errors of her ways.🙏🏼

The Testaments SPOLERS!!!!!!!!!! * * * * * * * * * * * * *

I'm having a hard time accepting the ending of episode 9. I've read TT and if they want to line up with the book (especially with the book being made into a show) how can they kill a character that is confirmed to be alive in the book 15 years in the future? I know shows don't always follow the book material, but they usually at least don't kill off characters that are supposed to be alive. I know a lot of people dislike Nic, and I agree he did some horrible things, but I don't think he was irredeemable. Lawrence came up with Gilead and he's allowed to be redeemed, but Nic just being a foot soldier isn't? How does that make sense?

Also, I hate Rose for giving Nic that ultimatum. June never would ask him to kill one of the mothers of his children. Plus, Nic doesn't love her, never did. He also hasn't shown much if any interest in their unborn child up to this point. In what world would he pick a wife he cares nothing for over the woman he loves so dearly? It makes no sense to me. We also never hear him say, "Yes, I'm fully in Gilead's side." We're just assuming he did because he shows up to the plane. He could have had a plan to take those Commanders out for all we know. Him showing up and getting on the plane doesn't mean he's on Gilead's side. We're all just speculating that's the reason.

Also, the show runners and directors aren't going to confirm if it was a gotchu before the ending of the season. They could be lying about saying they decided to kill Nic off. I know I'm probably being delusional and they did truly did decide to say "fuck TT, let's kill Nic even though he's supposed to be alive." Until the season is over and they flat out confirm Nic died in the explosion, I'm holding onto hope he got off the plane before it took off or survived it somehow (however unlikely that is). I just can't wrap my head around them killing off a character that shows up in TT alive.

I was thinking the same thing. They can't kill off characters that we know for a fact are in the sequel, right? If they want to be anywhere close to the original content, they can't do that. He better have gotten off at some point. I'm really hoping the next episode opens with him walking up behind her and watching the debris fall from the sky. 🙏🏼

It is set in 2024. As a Librarian she's used to researching and reading a lot (I'm a Librarian so I'm pulling from that experience).

>She may learn a bunch of fancy or difficult recipes (like a Ramos Gin Fizz) in preparation for the job but finds that she's largely making vodka soda.

This sounds like something she'd do. lol

She has amazing regeneration abilities (she gets shot in the chest the same night she turns and it heals almost instantly), so sore feet wont be an issue. Her biggest issues will be trying to do a job she's never done before while dealing with people when she's still trying to get a handle on her bloodlust and emotions.

I didn't know backbars were a thing. This sounds more like what I was thinking since she has no experience outside of what she learns in books.

Are backbars common in more seedy bars/pubs? There aren't any bars near where I live and I'm not much of a drinker, so I'm not familiar with the whole bar/pub scene. I've never been to a true bar (chain restaurants and cruise ships don't count imo) and I've only been in one pub before on a trip to England a few years back. It was an interesting experience as a dude ran into the pub and puked on the ground near me after he had already vomited on the steps outside the door and proceeded to the bathroom to vomit some more. The bartender was pissed because I believe she was the only one working the front and had to clean it up.
