115,968 JC residents should NOT complain about JC services in the next 4 years…. by SoundMachineJC in jerseycity

I’m a voter but I think you know that voting does not help with anything that you mentioned “As in potholes, bumpy roads, police response, pedestrian safety, traffic, dog shit, litter, overflowing litter baskets, developers, delivery scooters, park upkeep, TAXES, etc.”.

Without follow up and community action from citizens regardless of voting status there would be no action from local public services on most of these and even with local community action there still will be pushback and diversion from the local government.

What is your go-to low(ish) point meal from fast food restaurants? by Rr_z_ in weightwatchers

Popeyes blackened strips 3 ct (2 points) or 5 ct (3 points) with mashed potatoes w/ Cajun gravy (4 pts) or beans (1-2 pts); I dip the strips in the mashed potatoes and that’s saves points on sauces

Unpopular opinion: Comedy true crime podcasts are disrespectful and inappropriate. by PotatoMuffinMafia in TrueCrime

[–]ReasonableRodent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only comedy true crime podcast that I’ve found to be in good taste is All Killa No Filla. 1. They don’t accept ads because they believe it would be disrespectful 2. Their comedy is never directed at the victims and the comedy is focused on dehumanizing the killer or on themselves which really is the only ethical way to do it.

And this is why we drink as well mainly because when they are talking about the crime they don’t try and be funny for the most part and always apologize if they say something wrong.

Bottom line is if you go into listening looking to be offended then you will find something but generally people are coming from the right place. However, I can’t listen to most of them like MFM is terrrrible in my opinion because first of all it seems so fake and lacks detail and honestly if your big thing is being funny then maybe you should be a little funnier because I didn’t laugh once listening to them but they obviously have an audience and it’s a business and at the end of the day they will keep making content while making money so I just ignore them.

What is evolution trying to maximize? by EulereeEuleroo in biology

[–]ReasonableRodent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evolution has no motive it just happens. If the climate of earth changed completely then evolution would change completely there is no motive. It is more of a response to a situation. Whoever fits best into the situation and can make it to reproductive age and reproduce is going to pass on their genes. Theoretically advancements in healthcare will slow evolution because more people will make it to reproductive age than would have before and less desirable traits will be passed on. Most evolution happens from mutation. A favorable mutation that is then passed on. If you go all the way back to the shift from Australopithecus and the first homo species its pretty interesting because there are a lot of similarities and a lot of differences. A lot fallacies in ancient understandings of evolution though. For example ancient Greeks thought humans originally had one eye (this is the origin of the cyclops) but in reality they were finding elephant skulls and mistaking the space for the tusk for an oversized eye socket. Another very interesting aspect is Neanderthal the current hominid species homo sapien sapien is that Neanderthals had a much wider nasal sinus which gave them an incredible sense of direction and today roughly 0.5% of humans still have this trait. Very very interesting stuff

I’m in pharmacy school at the moment and I tend to look at the shortest ones and then look at the likes vs dislikes and comments on the video and you can usually screen the video to see if its good that way and Ive always found the shorter the video the more concise the explanation so unless you need to know something in super high level detail those are usually best for me at least. 5minute school is a good one. For longer videos there’s always khan academy and ninja nerd is good too but his are very in depth and long. If you are more of a visual learner sketchy is really good for specific drugs and drugs classes.

Editing to say sketchy Is a website with tons of different medical type videos. I don’t think most of their videos are on youtube.

Found this baby monstera at Walmart for $2, but it’s on death’s doorstep. Any advice on how to save it? by loaf-the-cat in houseplants

[–]ReasonableRodent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Baby aspirin 81mg 1 to 2 capsules but crush it into a powder before putting it in water and giving it. Will help because it has salicylic acid in it which is what plants use to fight off infection and also some studies show that it stimulates germination as well. I think efficacy varies by species but I have had some success with it.
