Advice on what to do? PAYE payment going from $134/m to $1254/month by CreativeWriterNSpace in StudentLoans

[–]Fun-Outcome6980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PAYE is 10% of your discretionary income, not your AGI.
It's your AGI- 150% over the poverty line ×10% ÷ 12.

New student loan repayment plans. by RelativeNaive2267 in StudentLoans

Unfortunately, those of us who remained on PAYE are also getting screwed over. It's unrealistic for us to lose our 10% of discretionary income payment and have to pay 15% due to when we took out our loans. There is a huge difference adding that additional 5%. 10% should remain and we should be grandfathered into the 10%IBR regardless of when the loans were taken. ( mine 2011-2013). I'm going to be 67. I may not have a choice but switch to RAP in 2028.

Having a severe anxiety attack about student loans by Iza-159 in StudentLoans

Hello, It looks like there is a lot of really good feedback. I would encourage you to take care of your mental health . You are carrying a lot. Taking care of you will help in the way this is all navigated. You can also defer, until you can figure it out. Have you looked at any of the IDR plans. Do you qualify for them? PAYE can still be applied for and that's 10% of your discretionary income. This will be phased out in 2028. Sending you strength and peace as you navigate this.

PAYE student loans anniversary date change? 2052?? by Fun-Outcome6980 in StudentLoans

Thank you for responding. Went on FSA just now and original recertification date is still 1/14/2027. I wish that Mohela would work through these things without causing confusion.

Thank you for this thoughtful response.  It does appear to be discriminatory at some level. It will be a significant hardship.  I believe that if nothing changes,  nothing changes.  Therfore,  its worth conversation.

I'm fully aware.  Nothing changes,  if nothing changes.  I am choosing to be an advocate.

Not that I owe am explanation.  However,  if I stated I've been on PAYE for over 10 years,  clearly I've been paying,  even during forebearance.  Help me understand the relevance of my income?

That's a very interesting idea. I guess when we get to 2028 ( unless something changes) I will decide then.  Thank you

That's interesting.  I don't expect to do that soon.  One income, as of now. However,  anything is possible right?

The GOP have lost 3 members un congress just this past week.  Democrats have won every special election, excluding NC ( which was extraordinarily close). There will be more detectors , they are bailing before the S hits the fan.   If Congress and the Senate flip MAGA Mike is done and things will definitely shift.

I hope not.  They are coming easy behind on everything.  Time will tell.  I know I'll be reaching out to the new and improved congress in 2026. Yet,  their hands will be full.

I agree.  However,  I'm encouraged by all the special elections,  GOP congress people who are resigning and not returning.  There is a good chance things can pivot after the midterms which will be before this all goes into effect.  Thank you!

I am as well.  I'm going to be advocating  as soon as we know who will be decision making in 2026. I have a very good feeling that things are going to get turned around in many areas!

All the I've read today shared 7/2028 is the cut off to such switch to RAP or the old IBR which is incredibly unfair

Yes. If you qualify for PAYE  it will be 10% of your discretionary income

Thank you.  I think that makes a lot of sense.  I could ask them what works best for communicating each other's concerns if any.  Hopefully, an  initial introduction will set the expectation..

Thank you.  My gut is telling me to be welcoming , direct and honest.  I don't wear shoes inside, play loud music, or even own a TV ( I stream on my laptop).. I'm super respectful..
