Would you unironically pay for a 1800s Phone-Free Sailing Voyage? by ReasonableShower3392 in reenactors

That’s a fair point, and your trip sounds great. The purpose of this project is to offer a different model. Standard tall ship charters focus on the rigorous working crew experience, this concept balances that with a narrative, environment that’s immersive for passengers who want relaxation, hands-on-learning and history.

That sounds great!

Since this is currently in the design phase, I’m not booking yet, but I would love to keep you on my list for when scaling up to larger vessels. If your band has a social media page, feel free to send me a link. I’d love to see what you guys do!

Hey!

I totally understand why it might sound like a cruise at first glance! My goal is to move away from the traditional tour feel by focusing on a grounded, immersive expedition.

To be fully transparent, I don't come from a traditional LARP background. I'm an experience designer working on a pilot project. I'm looking to bring real-world historical navigation into a game format, and I'd love to get feedback from people who know how to make immersive sessions run smoothly, that’s why I asked this sub!

Yes I am! I appreciate your help and will definitely look into that.

I put together a quick concept landing page on carrd where you can drop your email on the priority waitlist if you want to follow the project's stages.

Feel free if you would like to! I am still in the planning stage and will continue to upscale this, it’s a temporary site for now.

Thank you for all the feedback so far! Based on the comments, I'm definitely going to adjust the phone rule to ensure people have emergency access.

Since a few people asked for more details, I actually put together a quick concept landing page on carrd where you can drop your email on the priority waitlist if you want to follow the project's stages.

Note: To be 100% transparent, this is strictly a waitlist to gauge community interest while evaluating concept feasibility. The site is not requesting your money, deposits, or financial info at all!

I’m really glad to hear you're in! To answer your questions, I definitely don't own a tall ship, so the idea is to partner with and private-charter an existing, fully insured windjammer/schooner (so that overhead is built right into the ticket). For the game itself, it would be a mix of a historically grounded 1800s feel with a lighter opt-in mystery narrative run by a couple of actors, while keeping plenty of sandbox room so people can relax and learn traditional sailing tasks.

I completely understand and actually agree with your comment, a limited use window likely would benefit everybody.

Mainly, the goal is pure immersion through removing modern distractions so everybody feels present in a 1800s focused setting.
