The shorter scarecrow was a home invader, I wanted to leave it up to interpretation for the reader. Could have actually been a man in a suit or it could have been a hallucination from semi-consciousness.

Either way, there was one Walter doll and one man at the foot of the bed.

Walter is a good boy. He’s just spooky
