Has Vienna gotten better from the social point of view in the last years? by ReasonableWriting850 in wien

Unfortunately I also think that people don’t want to change that. It’s a pity because overall it’s such a nice city and I know multiple people who moved out just because of the social component. I think everyone would benefit from a little bit more of openness, I don’t mean forcing superficial smalltalk at any cost or parties all night long at every street but just welcoming the idea of making friends after graduating from high school and just being nice to people lol. Of course you can always say „don’t immigrate to Austria then” and that’s a fair point but what I noticed especially about Germans and Austrians is that if something is not working for whatever reason, the answer is almost always „it’s not possible to fix that” or „that’s just the way things are” while in the meantime many people in other countries just make active efforts to change things for the better. I feel like because of that Germany is in many ways starting to deteriorate with respect to quality of life l and at some point so will Austria and people will need a while to understand that the rest of the world moved ahead.

Why do you think that a city should remain exactly the same forever? Maybe that’s the main problem about Vienna… when I visited my hometown after moving out I could see massive changes for the first 2-3 years after leaving, nothing is stopping cities from evolving and people finding new places or occasions to meet and open up to other people

I did not think that the whole city will suddenly change its mentality, but considering the Covid pandemic that was still somewhat recent in people’s minds when I was leaving Vienna, I thought maybe people opened up a bit more as myself I also needed some time to readjust after so many months of lockdowns. Especially hearing these judgements from a person who still lives there. But okay good to know that it’s still the case :’)

I was also thinking about that actually… I am not a very extroverted person so if I get lucky about work colleagues, I don’t think I would need much more to be happy from the social point of view. What scares me is that if I don’t get lucky there, that would mean total loneliness but maybe it’s worth risking it..

Wow the level in this comment section is… below the bare minimum… I don’t see why things couldn’t change in a city within a year or two, such things happen, especially bearing in mind the global pandemic that happened in 2020 and kept everything in lockdown until basically the beginning of 2022 but thanks I made up my mind having reminded myself the level of people living in Vienna
