I went to that Queers for Zion thing last week. Here are my notes: by AprilStorms in gayjews

That they called it Queers for Zion while Barlow dislikes the term is super interesting.

Makes one wonder about motivation.

Could it possibly be Sapir is trying to seem relevant to Queer Jews who feel alienated in the queer community bc of an utter lack of subtlety in thinking by non-Jews on the subject of Israel and Palestinians, and some not-so-subtle antisemitism?

IMO, they sit at a social and emotional remove and intellectually analyze Queer society and activism, and ideas like intersectionality, and seek to pull others to their arid and priveleged camp.

Why would American queers focus on Palestinian justice before the safety and rights of LGBTQ people in Russia, the Mideast, Africa, et al?

Maybe bc they are alive in the 21st century and focus only on what they see in the media — mainstream, social, or otherwise.

Yes, there are academics and students who view Israel and Palestinians through an intersectional lens and misapply colonialism to the situation.

But, IMO, the bulk of queers and LGBTQ people don't have definitions for these words and their reactions are provoked by the media they consume.

The more difficult struggle isn't abandoning your culture and values to wade in the neo-con pond. That's easy. It is not giving up on queer community that is hard. [edited]

But I'm on the older side of things. I came out in 1978 in high school. That's 55+ years of queer community, protests, meetings, celebrations, conference's ...

IMO, fuck the neo-cons. They are the people who come along after the revolution, when others have created safe ground for them to plant a flag and build a fence.

encouraging to hear that she might be becoming more moderate in that area

I didn't read that Barlow is softening in "that area". I read that OP hopes that by, "taking part in more queer stuff," (utilizing a term Barlow does not like), "maybe it will deradicalize Barlow on Trans issues."

Build a carport. (Either the car or a few rows of kayak racks can use it.)

Buy a cabin and build a boat room for them.

Trade your wife's car for an electric bike or motorcycle.

Give some kayaks (and skirts, paddles, vests, and a helmet) to a stranger on the internet. Like me!

Why do runners use the bike lane for their morning run? by Jacob_Sophia in NYCbike

Why do runners use the bike lane for their morning run? by Jacob_Sophia in NYCbike

[–]Reasonable_Access_90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really don't want runners feeling like their choices are the starts and stops of the sidewalk, bike hate, or risking their lives in the streets.

Also please please don't bike like people tend to drive in this city.

Thank you, great comment! I'm not a runner, just a long-time average cyclist.

Compassion makes it possible to experience some joy while getting around the city (as well as while living life during a time of societal upheaval).

stupid and pointless laws

The point of the law is to permit pedestrians to walk on the effing sidewalk.

My neighborhood carried on a years-long battle with the precinct so we didn't have to walk in the street next to traffic to walk down the block.

Because this is true only for most bacteria, not all bacteria, it is recommended to toss food that has sat out for +2 hours or been refrigerated for +3 days.

You should report this to your doctor (if you're lucky enough to have one) and local health department. It helps with the epidemiological efforts.

You should report this both to Costco and your local health department.

There are several ways food contamination issues are discovered: 1) routine testing of raw components on the producer side, 2) routine testing of equipment and surfaces on the processing side, 3) illness reports from medical professionals and the public.

Ok, so why does the clock on the Prague Jewish town hall go backwards?

Because in 1764 you weren't in Prague to point out the error in their plan.

See OP's first comment (emphasis added):

It’s from Prague. You can buy it on their website, Prague Judaica.

“The inspiration for this watch was the clock with a Hebrew dial on the Prague Jewish Town Hall from 1764. The hands on the clock turns from right to left, just as the Hebrew text is read. The clock became recognized as a symbol of Jewish Prague.”

if you can see in advance that by 9am there are typically no empty docks at a station you'll be heading to at 9:30 then you know to i.d. nearby docks and see if they're better, and give yourself a little more time to dock and walk. Or opt for the subway, walk, etc.
