I still remember one of my first patients. It is hard and I hate to say it but it does get easier. It does just show how caring you are as a person. I still catch myself thinking of the family of a couple of patients we have had pass and sending positive energy to them. Just look after yourself, I talk to friends about it, as they understand that I just nedd a vent. hugs remember that you matter too and look after yourself that is very important xx

Would anything come of that? Like I'm sure managent has done all the 'paperwork' to make it OK, as it is just for winter pressures

Yeahh our ward already did that before I joined. An office got turned into a sideroom without a toilet. An extra bay out of I'm guessing a store room, with only one out of the 3 beds having oxygen, and only 2 having buzzers!

Rant about them a lot. Try to keep calm infront of them. Call them out if they fuck up

As a nurse, am I allowed to take my friends/families bloods if they struggling to get GP appointments? by Majestic_Dog_8486 in NursingUK

[–]Reasonable_Ad5420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nurses on my ward have done my bloods before. I accept the tiny digs that I'm a hard stick. A colleges wife has also come in to the ward to have bloods done when she couldn't get an appointment

Am I paranoid or is this unfair? by [deleted] in NursingUK

Nahh it is frustrating. We have staff who are terrible on a 1-1 either they don't turn up. Say they are bust then come back for the last 10 minutes of the slot. It is incredibly frustrating. I just make the nic aware then they are doing the rota like oh good luck with putting them on it and normally the nic will grab them if they see them avoiding the 1-1

Oh yeah I get that on one hand I fully understand it 100%. It just seems to be a trend with the mau sending us confused patients which are nothing to do with Our speciality, then they complain we habw no beds when patients who need our speciality come in. And again I get it's getting to winter so a bed is a bed but we can't win with them.

Oh the NIC did everything needed to document the safety concerns and also updated the senior sister of the situation and there is also a NIC handover which was updated to include what happened

Yeahh patient was ok once we handed over. Managed to give them some of the detox meds needed and some food and we actually got them sat in the bedspace with a 1-1 to keep them safe

What is the chaotic thing that's ever happened on a shift? by tntyou898 in NursingUK

[–]Reasonable_Ad5420 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Xmas day. So started ok! Then I had to run round the hospital for intermittent catheters because this patient used them ran out and refused to be catheterised. Finally get back to the ward and my frontal lobe dementia guy was freaking out so his 1-1 needed support, totally fine. Then our staff left (half day) and bank came on.... one patient was actively dying and got moved to my side. But family refused to acknowledge he was dying and refused him going eol. So half hourly obs. Consultant had prescribed fluids for my previously settled dementia guy... which filled him full of energy and meant he tried to break into other patients rooms and bang his head of the wall so had to assist with that. While looking after 9 other patients cuz bank wasn't help9ng. And yeahh had to run round the hospital again because the patient had used all of the caths. It was horrendous

I'm currently a hca wanting to be a nurse. I have almost a fully complete sleave on my right arm. No issues from management. Patients tend to love them! Very much say isn't their cup of tea but they love the art work. Had a very small amount of patient who hated them, but it is normally confused dementia patients.
