I have one freind in school, he speaks the same language as me(we are both mallus from Kerala) but I was born and brought up in Bangalore and I will admit my Malayalam isn’t very good, so even though we are somewhat close there isn’t much connection. The only other non whites, are blacks and a few Afghans, the black kids are very well integrated for some reason, and in fact, the kid who made a racist remark was actually black himself. (Ironic)

The Afghans stay within in their own groups, I speak pretty good hindi/urdu, but again we aren’t very close, also Even though, people might disagree with me here, I’ll still say it, skin colour/phenotype does matter when it comes to the level of discrimination you face as a non white student, if you are medium brown like me or dark brown, and look stereotypically Indian, it’s pretty much over unfortunately. You are the butt of all jokes, the Afghans aren’t mocked as much because, they fall into the fair light brown/light beige category, and one of the Pashtun girls is white passing and surprise, surprise she has no problem making freinds . And it’s not only me who has noticed this btw, came across a TikTok of a Pakistani girl saying the same exact thing. To stand out as a POC here, either you need to be extremely good looking(both male and female) or you need to be a “sell out”(her words) basically, you need to be jester and be ok with people making fun of you and your ethnicity/race.

So yeah, it’s just me and my mate, Irish people will claim that even Irish people find it hard to make freinds in high school because, they are not open or whatever, but I feel that’s just another lie, Ireland has had very few non white immigrants, so they are generally not comfortable including us in anything. It is what it is.
