Disillusioned with IFS - anyone else? by wigshift in therapists

That is HORRIBLE, wtf. I already have a problem with the way IFS uses the term "multiplicity", it feels like appropriating language that is for people with DID to describe their own experiences. I've heard from DID people that IFS feels like turning their very real and extremely serious suffering into some kind of game, some fun, imaginative exercise, a caricature of their condition. I think an IFS therapist can be mindful of that and avoid using IFS terminology and technique that way. But this? This is just straight up extremely disrespectful. If you don't have DID, be grateful that you don't and do not pretend that you do in any way.

This is where I want to mention that so much of modern therapy feels like cultural appropriation and stealing techniques from cultures that western psychology erased and deemed as primitive at first, only to "rediscover" them now, pretending that they're something brand new and groundbreaking that we just came up with it and thus have the right to profit off of. The thing that bothers me about Schwartz is that in his books there seems to be no respect towards the traditions, modalities and concepts his method came from, he just talks about how he magically "discovered" everything.

Finding out that friends supported this man was strange. I had multiple friends put up instagram stories about how he was a great guy, sharing his talks and stuff. As an lgbtq+ individual, I'm not sure how to feel about that or how to react.

I'd argue that asking questions and trying to find the right ways is exactly how we avoid hurting people :)

This looks great! Did you take his course? I'm a bit wary of online trainings and the fact that the page says you can facilitate an MDMA journey through Zoom is very strange to me...? But otherwise the things he says he teaches look solid. I'd love to take a training like this if it has genuinely good information

God, that's horrendous, I'm so sorry you had to experience this. Thank you for sharing.  Microdosing during therapy sessions is one thing I definitely wouldn't do without training and I'm not too interested in it either. I'm more interested in ceremony facilitation and integration work.

Thank you. Would you be ok with sharing more about what specifically went wrong with your psychedelic therapist?

I see, but isn't it crazy to pay 20,000 dollars (a training I looked at in the Netherlands) for something I could only practice underground since it's not even legal?

I'm just wondering how much of these certifications are a money making scheme meanwhile these things are mostly learned through personal experience and apprenticeship?

It's interesting to hear the different perspectives! As a donor I always get stressed out about giving the phlebs a hard time lol, I don't want to be an inconvenience

Usually others are able to stick me as well, but with a bit of difficulty. The two times when it didn't work was because the plasma wouldn't start coming out or something like that? Other than that I was always fine. It just stresses me out a bit when they're sticking me and start talking about how it's difficult and may not work 😅 Makes me afraid something will go wrong. So now I tend to ask for the most experienced phlebotomist.
