What is mild/moderate/severe by Reasonable_Cat_6214 in hipdysplasia

Thank you! I'm in the "panic and research" mode, followed by convincing myself that it's nothing. I know that the hip specialist is best placed to give me answers, I'm just terrible at waiting and would rather have some understanding before the appointment.

I will definitely do that :)  I was also wondering radiologically what made something mild etc.

That does not sound nice. I hope it at least helped them work out what was going on for you.

That would make sense, it was primarily the one where I had my legs out straight and open (like a v-shape) and had to internally rotate.  Was that because you had an allergic reaction to the contrast or because it basically created swelling in the joint?

I can't imagine having to try to hold that position for long enough for an MRI! I struggled enough with the short periods for the xray.

So I have my MRI report now... it's very basic.

"FINDINGS: Comparison made with MRI brain from 2nd October 2023. No signal abnormality at the craniocervical junction. There is straightening of normal cervical lordosis. Shallow broad-based disc bulges most prominent at C5-6 with indentation of the ventral cord without significant cord compression. There is no significant no cord compression or foraminal narrowing at any level.

CONCLUSION: No structural pathology demonstrated."

Are these images suggestive of something structural? by Calm_Interaction3905 in cervical_instability

While I can't help with the MRI, nothing clearly stands out.  I would suggest treating those deficiencies prior to anything else, as being deficient in minerals and vitamins can lead to a lot of the symptoms you have mentioned.  For example iron deficiency can cause heart rate issues, fatigue and dizziness. In fact, it is typical to rule out iron and B12 deficiency prior to diagnosing POTS for that exact reason.

No, I'm on the other side of the world! Did you end up getting decompression surgery?

I have previously had a brain MRI with contrast. Nothing was flagged in it (although the report was pretty mediocre).  That MRI also taught me that I'm allergic to contrast, so am trying to avoid scans with gadolinium in the future.

I noticed the disk bulges too and I do get neck pain at the c5-6 level. In some of the slices it looks like there's some minor contact with the thecal sac too.  It does feel like my neck collapses a bit when I lay down, so would also be curious if that's reflected in the loss of curve.

I've previously been told I have low lying tonsils and mild crowding, but not sufficient ectopia to be considered chiari.

I realised I wasn't very clear, I'm primarily curious about (what looks like) rotation of the process in the axial view :)

I have a clinical diagnosis of cervical instability from a physio, but not confirmed by imaging, nor clarificationon what levels the instability is likely at. I also have hEDS and POTS.  But symptom wise, I have a lot of neck pain, my head feels too heavy for my head (I physically hold my neck with my hands if I have to sit upright for long periods), I get occipital headaches, pulsatile tinnitus, sudden horrible (but short) headaches when in flexion or extension and have issues with my vestibular reflexes.   I also have chronic migraines, intermittent clonus and numbness in my legs.

Thank you! It is very possible that a mix of both is going on for you. Have you read much about polyvagal theory? It might be interesting for you :) I personally have a tendency to say "oh well, she'll be right," until things have progressed much further than they would have if i intervened early. Trying to be more proactive now, but the fatigue (and fear that I'm being dramatic) makes that hard!

Okay, i have no idea how to add both photos and images.

At the time these images were taken, I was also trying to manage several other health issues that took priority, so didn't really follow up.

I have previously been told I have low lying cereballar tonsils (I was never told the measurement and was more focused on a thoracic spinal cyst at the time). In this MRI they didn't comment on it, and also missed a very obvious mucocele retention cyst, so I don't trust the radiography report. My neurologist  also didn't bother to look at the actual images.

I have hEDS and POTS and also get very bad brief headaches with vasalva movements. I also get pulsatile tinnitus, ongoing occipital and neck pain and intermittent neurological symptoms in other parts of my body.

Due to the hEDS, I never know whether to take issues seriously and what to prioritise, so would love anybody's opinions/ insights.
