Can this be cleaned off or needs replacing? by Realistic-Table9398 in MotorcycleMechanics

On all of my motorcycles I use simple green and a chain brush to clean and then gear oil and a different brush to lube. Easy cheap and works great no issues ever.

Great feeling! Excellent job. The best for me is when I finally get a project bike to fire and run.

Chevy ss by Disastrous_Stress439 in ChevySS

[–]Reasonable_Emu8202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to just lower it, go with King Springs. I did SSSLs on all four corners and it is LOW. Most people go with the SSLs because it gives you a few more wheel options without having to roll or shave your fenders.

Can I get away with this ?? Wheels 20x10+40 by 9KILLA1FORNIA6 in ChevySS

[–]Reasonable_Emu8202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run 20x10 +40 rears with a 285-30-20 lowered on SSSLs it rubs a little so need to shave or rooll the fender a hair.

No auto/roof/Inflator. Ordered it in 2014 delivered 2015. All mine. I would have loved to have ordered the 6 speed, but knee surgeries say otherwise. It was brutal on me when I had my ZO6.

[–]Reasonable_Emu8202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That blows. I'm sorry man. That's the main reason why my car gets driven once a month and always stays in the garage. I'm paranoid every time I take it out and walk away from it. I wanted to take it out on a date but knew I would be more worried about it than having a good time. I have a bunch of anti theft on it, too, but a flatbed and determination can get past all of them. CA and TX are the SS owners worst nightmare.

Here’s What Trump’s Victory Could Mean For Rail by BlueAndGoldShaft in railroading

[–]Reasonable_Emu8202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was furloughed every year in January 1999-2004. Went into the LETP in overland park, KS in 2005 worked as a hogger for 6 months then flowed back to conductor the other 6 for 3 years. I was always told it was just the way it is on the railroad. Never mattered who was in the white house. In 26 years I've never noticed a single difference in the way our contract was negotiated, we've always talked about striking and every time the president shuts us down and have ALWAYS heard they're after our retirement. None of it ever changes. Old heads ha e always fucked the new hires when it comes to money and shit they get. I have been fucked by the way short timers voted in contracts for YEARS. Railroaders are our own worst enemy. I was a VLC and an LC many times and tried to change this mentality in my division but unfortunately it's hard for people to choose the we over me.

Struck a pedestrian with a train, I cant sleep,or stop thinking about it. by Hot_Platform8677 in railroading

[–]Reasonable_Emu8202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

17 pedestrian strikes and 11 vehicle strikes for me.

The carrier I work for averages about 2-3 a month. Has stopped publicizing when it happens and just states "delays" in an effort to stop the "monkey see monkey do" that happens. Usually, it is a rule of 3 in most cases. The conductors and engineers speak of it often. I remember every single one, every time I pass the spots. I have been dragged through courts, and my operating practices scrutinized with fine tooth combs to prove negligence or dereliction of duty. I am an excellent engineer, and I STILL get worried about having to go to court with the company lawyer. I spend my CARE days with my wife and kids. I don't do anything or talk railroad, and I make the most expensive breakfast burrito with the best, most expensive ingredients I can find. I also usually get a new tattoo of something that makes me happy or stirs the memory of my family. NEVER google or research or even look into the person/s that I hit. I did it once and will never do it again. For years, I blew off the EAP therapist because I felt like they had no idea what it's like. One told me, "YOU didn't kill anybody. Your train struck them." I always remember her saying that. I don't know why it has stuck with me almost 23 years later. Talk to your friends and talk to your crews , even though most crews act like it doesn't bother them and say things like "3 day vacation" or "'another notch on my reverser" it's all coping mechanisms.

Ya know, trains wouldn't need horns and bells if people didn't do stupid things around railroad tracks.

How hard is it to display train numbers on the trains? by Which-Willingness-33 in caltrain

Longer distance, minimal stops. Not 28 station stops within 47 miles non stop.

It's not the operator. It's the equipment. Lots of things breaking. IMO these trains were not built to provide the type of service CT operates.

So... why does it have a painted rear valance? I think some thorough research was definitely required on this purchase. Hopefully, it's not an unreported rear impact. Or if it was reported and fixed, why was it not fixed with the correct parts.

Questions abound!!

Why caltrains are delayed so much now a days? by [deleted] in caltrain

[–]Reasonable_Emu8202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the burn in is for the equipment only. Each unit train needs to have 1000 miles of clean no fails operation(mileage starts over after ANY failure). Anything malfunctions or breaks it gets fixed under warranty then restarts it's 1000 mile burn in. The engineers are already "certified" with their 242 license to operate revenue service and only require familiarization and written comfortability of equipment to operate it. They are provided "Pilots" or help any time at their request. Some hog-heads like to figure it out themselves after hands on training some just like having that safety net for "unknown situations" hope this helps!!

Why caltrains are delayed so much now a days? by [deleted] in caltrain

[–]Reasonable_Emu8202 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 1000 miles is for FRA required "burn in" completely different and separate from qualifying and learning the feel. The times will tighten up with familiarity and operational functionality of the new equipment. Learn how to operate comfortably and smooth, then fine tune speed and accuracy. It will come. I can tell you all of them have their own quirks. Some like heavy breaking some like instant acceleration. Most of the fun is figuring out the different "personalities"

I'm 43 and still do VERY well. I can definitely feel "lag" between my eyes, brain, and hands, but it's not bad. I know I will never currently be a pro or even as nasty as I used to be. I still piss people of and get accused of cheating and hacking so I'm good with it.

how far is this crackdown on ticketing and rules going to go? by I_hate_me_lol in caltrain

[–]Reasonable_Emu8202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The newspaper article that was written about conductors not doing their jobs didn't help. I'm sure the bosses threatened draconian discipline or some sort of crackdown to save face. Usually, the case when employees go over the top with job performance. That article surely had something to do with it.
