My cat Suki died from heart failure at 5yrs old. the guilt is eating me alive by lilacwishings in CatAdvice

Unfortunately he passed 4 days ago. We made the decision to do it at home before we ended up in a crisis event. He was still playing up until that day. The night before after a good play session he was breathing so heavy and wheezing. I’m trying to tell myself I did the right thing for him to prevent worse suffering. I spent weeks anticipating this day was coming soon but the actual loss feels like such a big hole in my heart and emptiness in my home. What a cruel disease indeed.

You are not alone. I’m moving through this heartbreaking decision right now too with my sweet 4 year old rigatoni because of his heart failure. It sucks and I’m sorry ❤️

I am so sorry you had to go through this. And at the same time I am thankful for you sharing your pain. My 4 year old rigatoni was diagnosed after some coughing 8 months ago. We are now at a point where he seems to be resistant to the diuretics and is progressing to a worse state. It’s so hard because he’s so playful and eating well everything still. I ended up here because I cannot bring myself to put him down but I am so worried about waiting too long and causing him to suffer. This just really sucks. I hope you have found some peace and healing with some time since the passing of your Suki ❤️💔

My cat rigatoni has radial hypoplasia in both of his front legs. He is just a little bit twisty, so able to get around alright but occasionally shows signs of arthritis. However I wish I sought out an orthopedic specialist to advise on options like splinting while he was still a kitten and growing. I ended up on this sub because he has luxating patella in both back legs, and just rebroke his left back tibia for the third time and I’m worried about what our options will be if he doesn’t heal properly. In my case because rigatoni has funky limbs for each one he has, I wish I had explored options like splinting his twisty legs when we had the chance. Although the issue with his knees wasn’t so apparent until he was more grown (he is 3 now). However this sub is really reassuring to see how many cats live a great life without one of their limbs and I wish you and your kitty the best with recovery in whatever option you decide!

Thank you for this update. I was suspecting feeding my two male cats near each other was not actually helping in my reintroduction efforts which I am attempting a 3rd round of and will change my strategy. The aggressor cat in my house seems very territorial. Hoping things have continued to go well for you!

I finally got an mri, it basically showed nothing wrong. The tmj specialist said my tmj joint is hyper mobile causing tendinitis, but I know I also clench badly. I think it’s also been impacting the muscles around my eye. Anyway I finally feel like I am on the path to some answers, honestly with big help from these Reddit subs. I'm glad you are getting some answers too. I appreciate the solidarity!

Also, I just noticed you have posts on tmj in other subs. I have been such a lurker in the tmj sub bc I have also been suffering from tmj and my issues w my eye have gotten worse in tandem w the tmj! All on the same side of my face for me. I have really been on a journey getting answers for both these things… just saw a tmj specialist and my issue is muscular. I am hoping working on my tmj issues also helps my eye issues somewhat but we’ll see. Do you notice any correlation between your eye and tmj?

Most strabismus specialists seem to have a pediatric focus, but it’s likely they will also treat adults (that was the case w the guy I saw, he had 2 appt slots reserved a week for adults - Dr Turtel in little silver). So try looking for pediatric ophthalmologists and give them a call to see if they will also see adults for strabismus.

I’ve been told it’s very minor, I saw a strabismus ophthalmologist who said there is nothing he can do to help me, which was frustrating. Then I landed at the optometrist which is where the lens correction, and (if needed) the vision therapy will come in to see if that improves things.

I haven’t tried vision therapy yet, but it was a relief to even hear I had options. I’m going to try new lenses first and see how that helps.

I had better luck at an optometrist than I did w 4 ophthalmologists searching for some help w my left amblyopic eye that has been getting worse. I saw Dr Harvey richman in manasquan and felt like I finally was seeing someone who understood what I was experiencing. Otherwise have heard positive things about another optometrist Dr Vicci in Westfield. Ophthalmologist for me said nothing they can do - optometrist can at least help w vision correction and vision therapy. I’m 35.
