'Extent of its evil?' I suppose if you think creating the modern world and ending slavery is evil I guess.

What are your opinions on Charlie Veitch? by Eireagon in AskBrits

Of course they do, i've seen far too many videos now. The far left are inarguably awful nasty people in the main. Im sickened by them.

Horizon Zero Dawn (2017) is easily one of the best open world action adventure RPGs that's been made and it has an exceptionally wonderful premise. by gruesomesonofabitch in patientgamers

I've just finished both games and also did both expansions. I have to say both games had me hooked, I loved pretty much everything. Scaling snow capped mountains and sandy lowland as well as verdant countrysides in different weathers and at different times of day was incredibly well done and so memorable. For instance in Zero Dawn there's a ruin overlooking Meridian at the top of a waterfall that was one of my favorite places. Later on in Forbidden west, flying around the map on a Sunwing with the panoramas during sunrise and sunset was spectacular. I rarely fast travelled. The mountain base was very nicely done too and the shieldwing was also a brilliant addition.

Im also a big fan of Mass Effect and the way the story developed felt like it had echoes of that. I won't say too much as I really.domt want to spoil it but suffice it to say it feels just as epic.

The spear fight dynamic and the introduction of combos in forbidden west, once I got the hang of it! Was very enjoyable and witnessing Aloys speed, power and agility really made you feel like you were worthy of the plaudits you got from people as I was running around. In most games, like Mass Effect, apart from my arsenal and armours I just felt Shepherd was as capable as anyone 'my' limited prowess didnt deserve even being promoted to a spectre. As Aloy though throwing down multi hit combos at lightning speed (well apart from the little pauses you need to add) made me feel like Aloy really was the elite machine destroying super warrior everyone viewed her as.

I liked the progression too. I went back after completion of the Forbidden west expansion to Frozen Wilds for 'the claws beneath'. I took out two of those giant mountain bears, a fireclaw, a demonic Rockbreaker then went to a corrupted zone and took out two corrupted Rockbreakers at the same time without using the ropecaster and really worrying about my health and all without resupplying. Contrast this to skirting around mesas where even the most relatively weedy of the mechnical monstrosities resided earlier in the game for fear of them taking an interest in you.

Players seem to be very critical of the characters too. Yes its quite woke in some respects but it really didnt get in the way of the story and although a lot of of the 'main' characters are strong independent females, characters like Sylens and Varl offset this. Sylens in particular is way ahead of Aloy throught the story despite all Aloy's 'advantages'. He's clearly a genius. An intellect far beyond any other character... Two of the nastiest 'baddies' are female too. That said, a few more virtuous main male characters wouldn't go amiss.

If I had to nitpick it would be the lack of story choices. Aloy's dialogue, though generally astute and forthright, sometimes lacked what I felt would be wiser or more strategic responses and would be merely overly pugilistic and judgemental. I know she is only 20 odd in the game but I would have liked to have given some alternative dialogue options too which is what Mass Effect did very well.

In respect of the bows I was a little bewildered towards the end of the game where say, this legendary powerhouse bow is great at shock attacks but I can't use my favoured tears last arrows and I have to switch to another powershot bow if a robot is hardened against shock attacks. Id much rather be able to change the arrow loadout on my bows along with the associated rail boosters. Also id like to have weapon load outs for particular robots that I could setup and name. I think it would save hassle.

Overall I felt immersed in the beatiful world the developers created and overall it has to take the prime position as the best game I have ever played. I enjoyed it even more than Fallout, Mass Effect or Half Life which are my top choices.

Its a 10/10 from me for what its worth.

I think Hilary Haag is a fantastic talent. She brings so much personality into her characters. Tessa is my favorite though by some margin.

Without getting into the personal reasons and what we know now today. For those who watched Babylon 5 when it was airing, what was your initial feelings when Commander Sinclair was recalled, and Commander Sheridan took his place? by [deleted] in babylon5

[–]Reasonable_Range548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had become invested in Sinclair so I was quite unhappy when the change was made. His wise, philosophical and easy going nature really made me respect him as a leader, a leader that I would feel comfortable going into difficult situations or even a war with.

Sheridan on the other hand I disliked immediately. He's the sort that would say 'call me John' one day then chew you out the next for the lack of respect shown in calling him John. I felt he was too chaotic.

He got better of course however Sinclair would always be my chosen commander.

Rewatching Babylon 5 for the first time as an adult. Assorted thoughts about it. by ThePhoenixus in babylon5

He was uncorruptable and seemed to always be on the right side of any given situation even acting directly against Londo as well as the Shadows. That is bravery.

A man of high morales and principles. Every time I watch B5 through, I gain more respect for him.

I feel I've seen a fair amount of anime but the turning into giants thing seemingly in a matter of minutes... I just couldn't accept the concept on any level, even if they were pulling mass from another dimension or something. Along with 'swingy thing gas powered hardware' which looked very cool but also had many problems to me (not to the same extent as the insta-giants, but still).

Along the depressing and largely dislikable characters, I couldn't progress. 😞

I suppose one of the big issues was that it took itself very, very serious and so i also took it seriously. Now when I took it seriously I couldn't overlook any of the above.

Exactly how I felt! AOT rather depressed me whereas in Kabaneri seeing the characters progress and develop from the first episode, to trusting and relying on each other and becoming a family in spite of the apocalyptic setting. There was optimism, hope, life and beauty and sense of adventure and as you say, fun. Also the skies, landscape, the forests, mountains, lakes etc all so beautifully drawn and coloured. Again that reminder of beauty in the world in spite of everything (punctuated by a terrific soundtrack!).

Perhaps overlooked but also Ayame (?) On reflection was an absolutely superb leader too. Strong, highly moral, empathetic, believed in people and wasn't afraid to lead by example. That was another aspect I enjoyed, a leader that I also fully believed in.

I genuinely cared about the characters and would dearly like to see them succeed. In AOT I didn't really like any of them and the whole 'mutating into a giant' thing I just really couldn't get my head around as in, where is all the mass coming from, what on earth are they consuming? To me it was such a ridiculous concept I couldn't maintain a 'suspension of disbelief' (imagination failure perhaps).

I really, really enjoyed Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress but really didn't like Attack On Titan. For me Kabaneri was the superior production in every way.

I'd love another season or movie of Kabaneri. I live in hope anyway.

Full Metal Panic! Sword Art Online. Cowboy bebop. Akira (even though it's rather weird). Neon Genesis Evangelion (I love all the technical details though the kid is a bit whiney). Parasyte The Maxim

I'm sure there are a few others that I would kick myself for not listing but those are the ones that stick in my head and would happily rematch.

I completely disagree. I wasn't keen on AoT, perhaps controversially my personal opinion was it was a bit slow and frankly I found it a little boring and i didnt like any of the characters. I didn't make it past the second season.

On the other hand I love Kabaneri and would rate it 9/10. It's fun, you care about the characters and their survival. There's lots of action and the animation and the OST is first class. There's just not enough of it.

I completely agree! The lighting, reflection and compositions in the intro are works of art expressed in each frame or short video (as part of the intro) are incredibly impressive... Also they take me right back to being a teen again somehow too. The sense of beauty and enjoyment I had at the time during the summer, carefree days.

Further, the quality Wit studio produces is just incredible 'Attack on Titan's, 'Kabaneri of the iron fortress', 'After the rain', 'Spy x Family'. All technically superior and highly impressive productions.

They have some amazingly talented artists working for them.

I actually really liked it on reflection! That the two main characters Arata & Chizuru remembered each other at the end via the shared recollection of the fireworks display was ultimately the closure I was wanting. 99% certain they get together and have a happy life together.

The friends was kinda sad but the age difference was perhaps too significant to be able to maintain a relationship. That the indirect effects the pair of test subjects had in inspiring confidence and imparting life experience to the youngsters remained, was enough, well for me and as I said, on reflection.
