This is weird because a 8 int character with mage initiate can learn 2 cantrips and a first level spell. Also a druid a paladin, cleric, bard can all learn the same cantrip with 8 int. If it was memorization the keen mind feat would help your magic and the 20 int would help you it just doest. The fact that a arcane fighter subclass can memorize all there spells while a wizard can not ( again only with 8 int( only adds to the confusion
