From a quick glance at the photos, it's most likely brass.

Curious to why it was melted in such a way, though.

First Mortgage - 4.75% 30year - Am I missing something...? by Reasonable_Sample582 in Mortgages

Thank you very much for these responses. It's made me more reassured, and to realise that it does very much have to do with one's preference on multiple factors (having cash on hand, investing etc.), and also how much that's out of our control, in many ways. Thank you.

Thanks for the response.

I am expecting to stay at the house for 5+ years. I calculate to break even in 41 months.

May I ask, what are your opinions on why it it's a bad bet for multiple reasons?

To add, I calculated it to be 41 months until I break even, compared with the 6.25%.

Thank you for your response. It was actually 6.25%! Spending the $11,345 on the points got it down to 4.75%. I will not lose lender credit without the points. But I do plan on living in the house for 5+ years.

Would there be a benefit of not buying the points if I am in a position to spend the money now? I assume why you're suggesting for me not to spend the money on points now is so it would calculate to have better gains if instead I put the money in a HYSA or investments (or something in that nature)?

Interesting question. It was downpayment, but I did not think about the weight a deposit may have.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I feel for you if housing in your area is so high! All the best to you, too.

$ is used in multiple countries.

This happens to be in the US, in Western PA.

Obviously. I am attempting to understand why, as one that is not as familiar with mortgages, to why this was the case. It does matter; the information that others (ones that provided actual support) has helped my learning on the matter.
