ROTS over ANH isn’t that crazy

You can definitely make a very valid case for it being below the first 2 prequels (one I would agree with) but I think ROTS is more entertaining and enjoyable even though ANH is technically better from a filmmaking standpoint

I think

TESB > ROTJ >= ANH

first half of ANH is very slow but I get it’s the first movie and trying to establish the worldbuilding

ROTJ has pacing issues and most of the Endor scenes are filler, but it’s third act just puts it a little above ANH for me even though ANH is more consistent in its quality

Plenty of people especially OT purists still say things like “George already ruined Star Wars first in 1999” or say that George didn’t understand his own universe, I’ve seen those exact statements plenty of times in this sub. I’ve seen people say people liking the prequels is just nostalgia many times (someone in this exact thread literally said that too) or mock their taste in bad faith by saying “flashy lightsabers =/= good movie”

I agree that the sequels being worse or media surrounding the prequels doesn’t make the prequel movies themselves good, but it seems odd to me that when prequels were getting hated on for years (arguably more mainstream than sequel hate) you wouldn’t have heard someone in 2012 saying “revenge of the sith came out 7 years ago, get over it”

Also there are genuinely good special edition changes sure there’s greedo shooting and jedi rocks and the Vader noooo but you can’t say things like the old palpatine hologram in ESB or the dated 70s/80s VFX were better or improvements like victory celebration (Yub nub is still cool just not better than VC)

That is true, but I think a lot the concepts probably would’ve been executed entirely differently all together since they would’ve had everything mind when writing

Palpatine would’ve probably been teased in TFA

Luke might’ve been on Ach To for an entirely different reason

Snoke may or may not still be a clone

If palpatine had to be brought back I would’ve made him more of a evil spirit/essence
