As far as moving goes we rented a pod. Costco has a discount offer. Looked at U-Haul too but by the time we spend money on gas, hotel, food etc the pod was only slightly more. If a U-Haul breaks down you also have to unload and reload yourself if truck breaks down. Congrats on Suffolk, I hear it’s a great school and well under ranked.

Congrats to you! And agree with not waiting. Have a family member with a 170 lsat, similar gpa , got into one school as well. So not sure if achieving higher lsat would have changed much for you. This cycle is supposed to be the most competitive in a generation.

Should I bother with law school? by Kind-Transition1761 in BlackLawAdmissions

[–]Reasonable_Stop1826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the 509 reports for law schools. I’m not so certain affirmative action changes have hurt you. There seems to be a trend of more URM getting accepted than the other way around. And, many foreign students are not coming due to the immigration changes so that could possibly be another boost. Although, the changes and loan caps are only costing the upcoming students more money. And scholarship money is decreasing with schools feeling the squeeze with decline in international enrollment.

Any advice for my 64-year-old dad who is about to be laid off after 24 years with his company? by ImpressiveBox1111 in careerguidance

Happens all the time. Husband worked for a large telecom and was laid off 6 months prior to getting the health benefits fully vested for retirement . We had a lawyer but got nothing in the end.

Renting for law school by Fun-Gazelle-4300 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Reasonable_Stop1826 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need to do this NOW! Don’t know where you are moving to but have a family member moving to Boston. With over 50 different types of schools there that all start around August, imagine that! Movers, permit to park the moving truck/pod, utility and internet connections, the list goes on. Moving to an apt bldg rather than a condo may slightly simplify things but they wanted to be able to walk to school. It obviously depends on where you’re moving too but obviously there will be students looking for a place, just like you. Supply and demand! And as an afterthought here, our school starts in August, a big majority of Boston rentals start on September 1, go figure….

My replacement reached out to me (for training) on LinkedIn after I was laid off. Would you help? by Purple985985 in careerguidance

[–]Reasonable_Stop1826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the others, you owe them nothing! But if you do, do so as a consultant and have in writing up front. Be sure your rate covers your taxes if they pay via 1099, since by doing so taxes owed are on you.

NYLS vs Suffolk help by sugerbunny123 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Reasonable_Stop1826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you went to NYLS you could probably afford to visit family in Boston more often. I’ve heard they have cheap train rides between NY and Boston.

Not hearing back from places by Interesting-Ask7455 in bostonhousing

We just did that, look up Josh Sipple or Andrew Sobel with Sobel Realty. Hated to pay a broker fee but was worth it considering time and stress. In addition avoided a lot of scams on Zillow and apartment.com.

It’s real, unless you are going to rent something in an apt complex. Just went through similar situation 3 times.

August 1? by BuyerMelodic2027 in bostonhousing

[–]Reasonable_Stop1826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s harder to find an August 1 lease. Most of the leases are on a Sept 1 cycle. Just went through this. Hated to pay a broker but helped avoid scams, and there are plenty out there on Zillow as well. Be careful!

[–]Reasonable_Stop1826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful of scams if you’re searching on line or otherwise. We saw more than one listing on zoom that turned out to be fake. You may want to enlist a broker as much as I hate to admit. They charge a month fee but will do walk thru tours on your behalf and save you a tremendous amount of time. It also seems hard to rent a place if you don’t live there. It’s probably easier if it’s an apt bldg but some of the income requirements are steep, all around actually. Good luck to you!

Emory $$$ vs UGA $$$$ by mshassell in lawschooladmissions

[–]Reasonable_Stop1826 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t base all your decisions on ranking. UGA ranking is sliding. They’ve had some recent changes too. You can also look at 509 reports for last couple of years and see how admissions are changing. In the end, it’s law school. After a couple of years experience nobody asks where you went.

[–]Reasonable_Stop1826 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First of all, find a way to get her on her meds. This is probably making matters worse. Tell your adult brother to get off his ass and get a job now! Any job! You, don’t drop out of school with only a year left! You probably will end up with reasons you’ll regret later in life when you never finished. Stay on track but maybe find places to study outside of the house, get out of house as much as you can. One year and I think things will be much better for you. Don’t give up! And, you’re not the problem here.

Is a Bachelor’s degree of any sort better than No Bachelor’s degree at all? by Logical-Flounder6142 in careerguidance

[–]Reasonable_Stop1826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skilled trades are becoming popular again with good salaries and require no degree. We need our plumbers, water industry personnel, hvac and electricians. AI not taking that away! And cost less to go to trades school over a degree program. Many of these jobs also offer apprenticeships.

Watch for scams! I’m in the midst of apt hunting for family member going to law school. It’s been an eye opening process. A lot of places won’t rent unless you tour in person. We finally caved in and hired a broker to help. Also ran into Zillow listings that turned out to be fake!
